Game Story

CLEVELAND (Ticker) -- The Los Angeles Lakers wrapped up a perfect road trip and continued to dominate Eastern Conference opponents as Kobe Bryant scored 21 points and Robert Horry added 20 off the bench in a 118-98 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Shaquille O'Neal had 19 points, eight rebounds and seven assists for Los Angeles, which completed a 6-0 road trip and extended its winning streak to nine games. The Lakers shot 52 percent (46-of-89), including 11-of-20 from 3-point range. Horry was nearly perfect, making 7-of-8 floor shots and both of his free throws.

"We just kept playing and fighting and eventually we won," O'Neal said.

"We had a great trip, guys came out and played hard," said Lakers guard Ron Harper, a former Cavalier who had 12 points. "The key was moving the basketball, and the guys made good shots."

The Lakers held an 81-78 lead after three quarters and O'Neal scored 11 points and Horry 10 in the fourth period to put away Cleveland. Los Angeles improved to 19-2 against the Eastern Conference and moved into a tie with the Portland Trail Blazers for first place in the Pacific Division and the best record in the league.

"What a game. We turned our intensity up in the second half," said Lakers coach Phil Jackson. "We played a wide-open game tonight, instead of our normal down-low game. This was a game mired by fouls and Robert Horry was a big help for us tonight."

Shawn Kemp had 23 points and eight rebounds and rookie Andre Miller tallied 23 and nine assists for Cleveland, which lost for just the third time in its last 11 home meetings with Los Angeles. Kemp fouled out with 3:28 to play and was ejected shortly thereafter for receiving two technicals while on the bench.

"From where I was sitting for his sixth foul, I thought that was a terrible call," Cleveland coach Randy Wittman said. "Obviously he is frustrated. I told our team that the effort we had was a good effort."

Cavaliers forward Mark Bryant was ejected with 1:31 remaining after he received his second techincal.

"I was ejected for words exchanged and that's it," Bryant said. "We played well, but we just fell apart in the fourth, and they opened it up."

Lamond Murray scored 17 points and Wesley Person added 16 for the Cavs, who had won their last three home games.

Bryant scored 13 points in the first half as the Lakers opened a 57-51 lead.

Kemp scored six points as Cleveland opened the third period with an 11-2 burst, taking a 62-59 lead on his 15-footer with 9:24 left. O'Neal answered with a short jumper but Murray hit a 12-footer and followed with a driving layup to give the Cavs a a 66-51 advantage.

Los Angeles went ahead for good, 79-76, when Bryant hit a 3-pointer with 1:30 left in the period.

O'Neal had seven points as the Lakers started the fourth period with a 14-4 run, pushing the margin to 95-82 on his hook shot with 7:52 to go. Cleveland got no closer than eight points thereafter.
