Game Story

INDIANAPOLIS (Ticker) -- The last time the Indiana Pacers faced the Detroit Pistons at home, they were just getting familiar with their new surroundings.

Reggie Miller scored 24 points to lead a balanced attack as the Pacers avenged their last home loss and won for the 23rd straight time at Conseco Fieldhouse with a 115-105 victory over the Pistons.

Indiana improved to 26-2 at home and has not lost in its new building since suffering a 107-99 loss to the Pistons on November 25. That defeat came in the Pacers' fourth game in their new building.

Jalen Rose scored 20 points and Rik Smits 18 and 12 rebounds for the Pacers, who have won five straight games and 13 of their last 15 games. Indiana is three games in front of Miami for the best record in the Eastern Conference.

Grant Hill netted 37 points and Jerry Stackhouse 32 for Detroit (28-28), which lost for the fifth time in its last eight and fell back to .500.

Trailing by eight points entering the fourth quarter, the Pistons closed to 93-90 with 7:57 left on a short jumper by Mikki Moore.

However, Derrick McKey scored four straight points, Austin Croshere hit a jumper, Miller two free throws and Rose a 3-pointer that provided Indiana with a 103-90 advantage with 5:39 to play.

"We played four good quarters tonight," Rose said. "Their two big guns, Hill and Stackhouse, made a lot of plays and I was concerned because they were in a rhythm. But we made our shots we needed to keep them at bay."

One of the better defensive players in the NBA when healthy, McKey did a solid job on Hill in the fourth period, holding him to seven points. Hill did not score his first points in the period until making two free throws with 2:28 to play.

"He (Hill) had a great game," McKey said. "I mean sometimes putting up numbers like that, you probably get a little fatigued in the second half, and we just tried to contain him, tried to get enough guys in his path to help the guy who is guarding him."

"They came at me a little bit harder in the fourth quarter," Hill said. "They are a good defensive team because they help out well. I was running into a few more double-teams late and we had two guys (himself and Stackhouse) carrying the load toward the end, but they just shut us down."

Hill and Stackhouse combined to make 24-of-49 shots from the field while the rest of their teammates made just 15-of-43. Detroit shot 42 percent (39-of-92).

"We knew we were going to have our work cut out for us from that standpoint, but at the same time we don't feel like we're a team that's going to allow basically a two-man show to beat us," Rose said.

After the Pistons scored the first six points, Indiana answered with an 18-3 spurt to move in front for good. Croshere scored seven of his 13 points in the burst.

The Pacers opened a 32-15 advantage after one quarter, when they held the Pistons to 22 percent (6-of-27) shooting. They led 57-49 at the break behind 12 points from Miller.

Mark Jackson added 13 points and 13 assists for the Pacers, who shot 48 percent (41-of-85) and held a 47-45 rebounding edge.

Indiana played without All-Star forward Dale Davis, who sat out with a strained left hamstring.
