Game Story

SACRAMENTO, California (Ticker) -- Vlade Divac scored a season-high 27 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as the Sacramento Kings rallied from an 18-point deficit for their fourth win in five games, 105-92 over the Charlotte Hornets.

The Kings used a 28-11 run spanning the third and fourth quarters to open an 89-81 lead with 7:13 left. Chris Webber scored 10 of his 22 points in that spurt with Divac adding six as the Kings swept a two-game season series from the Hornets for the first time.

Eddie Jones' jumper pulled Charlotte within 93-88 with 5:20 to play but Webber drilled a 12-footer to close an 8-1 burst that extended Sacramento's lead to 101-89 with 2:57 remaining.

"It was a tale of two halves," Kings coach Rick Adelman said. "It just seemed like we didn't have any energy and that's all we talked about during halftime. It was the type of win we needed against a pretty good team."

Divac shot 12-of-21 from the floor and Webber 10-of-18 to help the Kings shoot 51 percent (47-of-92), including 59 percent (27-of-46) in the second half. Divac scored 21 points twice this season, most recently against Phoenix on December 18.

"Well, I fell great. I don't care if I'm tired or not because we won the game," Divac said. "Coach told us at halftime that we needed to step up on defense because we gave up a lot of easy shots."

"I think the last few games, Vlade has been upping his game but he's coming to play and doing his job so that's how he'll get started," Webber said. "In the second half guys came together and we got some hands on the ball and made more shots."

Divac has averaged 23.0 points the last two games after scoring in single figures the previous four contests.

Sacramento outscored Charlotte, 61-37, in the second half and held a 50-38 advantage in points in the paint. Jon Barry scored 11 points and Lawrence Funderburke added 10 as the Kings gained a 33-17 advantage in bench points.

The Kings have won four straight meetings with the Hornets and six of the last seven encounters in Sacramento.

Charlotte hit 42 percent (14-of-33) of its shots in the second half and 47 percent (37-of-78) overall. It fell to 1-1 on a three-game road trip that concludes Friday at the Los Angeles Clippers.

"I thought that when we had fresh legs we played really well, but they just kept coming at us," Hornets coach Paul Silas said. "I thought Rick substituted very well to take advantage of our first unit and it kind of wore us down."

"We knew they were going to make a run," Hornets forward Chucky Brown said. "We were playing good, we just probably ran out of gas. They're a good team, a playoff team."

David Wesley scored 21 points and Derrick Coleman added 17 for Charlotte, which has dropped three of its last five. Elden Campbell chipped in 15 points and 13 rebounds with Jones pouring in 14 points.

Charlotte scored 11 straight points to open a 53-35 cushion with 3:21 left in the first half. Wesley netted five points in that spurt and finished the half with 17 as the Hornets led, 55-44.
