Game Story

LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- Two nights after blowing an 18-point lead, the Charlotte Hornets rallied from a 20-point second-half deficit for their third win in four games, 118-101 over the Los Angeles Clippers.

The Clippers scored the first 11 points of the third quarter to open a 69-49 lead with 9:51 left, capped by rookie Lamar Odom's 3-pointer. They held a 71-51 cushion with 9:04 left in the period but were outscored 67-30 the rest of the way and dealt their fifth straight loss.

The Hornets shot 60 percent (28-of-46) from the floor in the final 24 minutes and finished 2-1 on their three-game road trip. They closed within one game of Philadelphia for fifth place in the Eastern Conference.

Charlotte scored 15 straight points spanning the third and fourth quarters to gain a 97-83 lead with 8:45 left. Derrick Coleman netted five points in that spurt and rookie Baron Davis, making his homecoming, closed it with a dunk.

"He's learning every day," Hornets coach Paul Silas said of Davis, who played collegiately at UCLA. "He's kind of revitalized right now. I think he's kind of feeling himself right now."

Coleman scored 31 points and Eddie Jones added 21 in Charlotte's first game since wasting a huge lead at Sacramento on Wednesday. Coleman and Elden Campbell grabbed 12 rebounds apiece to help the Hornets gain a 45-42 advantage on the glass.

Charlotte's frontcourt helped it to a 70-42 advantage on points in the paint. It did not help the Clippers that forward Maurice Taylor sat out with a stomach flu.

"Taylor is one of those guys who demands a double-team," Jones said. "He's a good player. I'm sure they missed him."

Campbell and Davis poured in 19 points apiece and Anthony Mason chipped in 12 for the Hornets, who have won five straight from the Clippers and three straight against them in Los Angeles.

Odom finished with his second triple-double of his career with 10 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists. He also accomplished the feat December 30 against Houston but appeared frustrated afterward.

"I'm pretty sure that you can see it," Odom said. "I don't know how to say it. I'm just gonna keep playing. I'm not gonna complain. We've lost so many games we forgot how to win."

"He's trying to run the whole show out there and I give him credit for that," Clippers interim coach Jim Todd said. "He wears his emotions on his sleeves and you can tell he's trying his best out there."

Derek Anderson scored 24 points and Tyrone Nesby added 20 for Los Angeles, which has lost 18 of its last 19 games. The Clippers went on a six-game homestand and are 9-21 at the Staples Center.

Jeff McInnis scored four points in a 13-6 run as the Clippers opened a 54-42 lead with 2:01 left in the first half. Anderson finished the half with 18 points and Nesby 15 to help Los Angeles to a 58-49 advantage.
