Game Story

DENVER (Ticker) -- Antonio McDyess had 23 points and 15 rebounds as the Denver Nuggets snapped a season-high seven-game losing streak and got some revenge with a 114-87 blowout of the Los Angeles Clippers.

McDyess, who recorded his 23rd double-double of the season, made half his 18 shots, went 5-of-6 from the line and scored 14 points after intermission, when the Nuggets pulled away.

Raef LaFrentz scored 21 points, rookie James Posey added 16 and Chris Gatling 14 for Denver, which blew a 14-point fourth-quarter lead and suffered a humiliating 110-106 loss to the Clippers on Tuesday.

"When you give a game away like we did Tuesday, there's no atoning for that," Denver coach Dan Issel said. "That was a real total team win tonight. It was a must win for us."

"That last game hurt in LA," McDyess said. "I feel like we've been playing hard and in every game. But things have not been falling our way."

The Nuggets improved to 41-12 all-time at home against the Clippers.

Maurice Taylor scored 21 points for Los Angeles, which has dropped consecutive games since a rare two-game winning streak. The Clippers (14-52) have the worst record in the Western Conference.

"We were 1-1 against Denver this week," Clippers coach Jim Todd said. "I kind of felt they weren't happy coming to LA and losing to us."

Keon Clark scored 10 points and Nick Van Exel added 10, eight assists and six rebounds for the Nuggets, who shot 47 percent (41-of-87), held a 56-51 advantage on the boards and scored 20 points off turnovers. Denver's 10 steals were one shy of a season high.

Derek Anderson scored 11 points and Michael Olowokandi and rookie Lamar Odom had 10 apiece for the Clippers, who shot 36 percent (37-of-104). Odom led Los Angeles' stunning comeback with 13 of his 25 points in the fourth quarter on Tuesday but was just 4-of-8 from the floor with three turnovers in 24 minutes tonight.

The Clippers were without second-year forward Tyrone Nesby due to personal reasons.

"The difference was we didn't have Tyrone Nesby," Todd said. "He gives us a lot of energy. Then Lamar Odom got sick and the end of the first quarter. We would have had to play very well to get this win."

McDyess dunked with 20 seconds left in the first quarter to give the Clippers a 30-21 lead. Gatling opened the second period with a three-point play and McDyess' 10-footer with 10:06 remaining in the half made it 37-24.

"You still have to be a professional when you're not in the playoffs," Gatling said. "We still have to play hard and hopefully as a team, we get better and learn from our mistakes. We have to use this as a preseason and end on a good note and take it into next year on a higher level. It was not really revenge tonight but learning from our mistakes last game."

Los Angeles responded with a 23-12 run, pulling within 49-47 on Anderson's 20-footer 2:23 before intermission.

"At the end of the first half I thought we had it under control," Taylor said. "We made some mistakes and they capitalized on them. They came out to win regardless of what happened in LA."

Van Exel made a 3-pointer, McDyess slammed and LaFrentz added a layup as Denver opened a 61-52 cushion with 9:51 remaining in the third period.

Chris Herren made a layup to spark an 11-0 fourth-quarter run that he capped by feeding fellow rookie Ryan Bowen for a layup that gave the Nuggets their biggest lead, 110-83, with 1:51 to play.
