Game Story

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (Ticker) -- Kobe Bryant scored 28 points as the Los Angeles Lakers continued their mastery of the Vancouver Grizzlies while extending their winning streak to seven games with a 108-99 victory.

Bryant shot 13-of-20 from the floor and added six rebounds for the Lakers, who swept the season series and improved to 18-1 all-time against overmatched Vancouver. Los Angeles defeated the Grizzlies by an average of 12 points in the four matchups this season.

The league-leading Lakers (60-12) have won 26 of their last 27 games and own a commanding eight-game lead over slumping Portland for the top spot in the Western Conference.

"We're in an important time in the season where we have to concentrate on ourselves and our execution," Bryant said. "It's going to be critical down the stretch."

Trailing 34-33 with 9:49 left in the second quarter, Los Angeles exploded with a 19-4 run for a 52-38 lead at the 3:48 mark. The Lakers led 60-46 at halftime and improved to 46-3 when leading at intermission.

NBA iron man A.C. Green played in his 1,100th consecutive game and scored 12 points, two shy of his season high.

"It's awesome... it's a tribute to God," Green said. "It's been 15 long, wonderful years. I've had great trainers. After you do all you can do and you get all the help you can get there still has to be additional help and that's why I'm appreciative of everyone. It takes a team effort."

Rick Fox made his first start of the season in place of Glen Rice, who missed the game with the flu. Fox had 12 points, six assists and six rebounds.

Michael Dickerson scored 32 points on 12-of-17 shooting and Shareef Abdur Rahim added 30 points and 13 rebounds for the Grizzlies (19-51), who have lost 14 of their last 15 games and failed in a bid to establish a single-season team record for wins.

"They're a good team," Dickerson said. "They've got a guard (Bryant) that can do everything and an unstoppable force inside (Shaquille O'Neal). It's hard for any team to beat them."

"Well they're on the schedule, you have to play them," Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins said. "We had to play them four times. You just go out and do the best you can."

The Grizzlies shot 71 percent (12-of-17), hit all three of their shots from behind the arc and made three of four free throws but still trailed 31-30 after one quarter.

Vancouver pulled within nine points with 4:49 left in the third quarter but the Lakers scored the next six points to push the lead to 81-66 at the 3:20 mark.

Dickerson's 3-pointer cut the deficit to 91-79 with 9:55 to play in the fourth but the Lakers answered with a 9-2 run to take their largest lead, 100-81, with 6:46 left.

O'Neal had 19 points, on 8-of-10 shooting, and eight assists and Ron Harper added 13 points for Los Angeles, which shot 50 percent (45-of-90) from the field and committed only eight turnovers. The Lakers bench outscored their Vancouver counterparts by a 24-6 margin.

"Kobe had a fabulous game," O'Neal said. "The reserves came in and did a good job. Tonight, I was looking to pass a lot and get everyone else involved."

Bryant Reeves scored 12 points and Othella Harrington added 10 for the Grizzlies, who shot 54 percent (40-of-74) but had 17 turnovers. Vancouver is only 6-6 this season when they make at least half its shots.
