Game Story

SAN ANTONIO (Ticker) -- Coming home from a rough trip, David Robinson and the San Antonio Spurs found some rude guests waiting for them.

Brash second-year guard Jason Williams scored nine of his 18 points during a fourth-quarter run that put the Sacramento Kings ahead to stay on their way to a 108-98 victory over the Spurs, who suffered their third straight loss.

"I expected us to win this game," Williams said. "I told the guys before the game that it would be tough without Chris Webber. He makes a lot of things easier for us when he is in the lineup and missing him makes it that much harder. We did a great job of stepping up tonight and put ourselves in a position to win this game."

Corliss Williamson led Sacramento with 28 points and 11 rebounds, while Vlade Divac added 20 points for the Kings, who trail Minnesota by two games for the sixth seed in the Western Conference playoffs with eight to play.

Tim Duncan bounced back from a subpar performance in a loss at Orlando with 28 points and Robinson scored 23 for the Spurs, who for the second straight night squandered a chance to move into a tie with Phoenix for the final home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs.

"We're not executing the way we should be," San Antonio point guard Avery Johnson said. "We had a five-game winning streak. This is a letdown. We are playing one quarter at a time or six minutes at a time, but we are having a hard time putting a game together.

"We have seven games left. We still have work to do. If we can put the pieces together, we will be OK."

Robinson passed the 18,000-point plateau and finished the night with 18,003. George Gervin, with 19,383, is the only Spur with more.

Robinson put San Antonio up 80-78 with a pair of free throws with 9:55 to go, but Williams drilled a 3-pointer to start the Kings on a 17-4 run that blew open the game. When Divac hit a jumper with 4:06 to go, Sacramento had a 95-84 lead.

"I hadn't been shooting well all game, but I felt like the team needed something to get the guys going," said Williams, who hit three 3-pointers in the fourth-quarter run. "That's all I was trying to do, get the rest of the guys going."

Williams hit 6-of-10 shots, including 4-of-7 from 3-point range, and dished out eight assists but also committed six of the Kings' 15 turnovers.

Besides being without Webber, who has a strained hamstring, Sacramento was missing forward Nick Anderson, who has tendinitis in both knees.
