Game Story

SACRAMENTO, California (Ticker) -- Peja Stojakovic and Chris Webber kept the high-powered offense of the Sacramento Kings moving forward.

The forward tandem combined for 51 points as the Kings raced to their fourth straight victory, a 109-84 rout of the Dallas Mavericks.

Stojakovic scored a season-high 28 points, two shy of his career high. He made 10-of-18 shots, including 4-of-7 from 3-point range, and fueled 11-0 surges in the first and third quarters.

They couldn't guard our big guys Chris and Vlade (center Vlade Divac)," SDtojakovic said. "Every time they doubled them, they would dish the ball and I'd knock down the open shot."

Webber collected 23 points and 13 rebounds. He made 9-of-12 shots and was virtually unstoppable until spraining his left ankle late in the third quarter. He will be evaluated further on Monday.

Webber did not return but the Kings did not need him. They led 82-59 entering the final period and the Mavericks got no closer than 17 points thereafter.

Lawrence Funderburke scored 14 points off the bench for the Kings, who shot 53 percent (39-of-73) and beat the Mavs at ARCO Arena for the seventh straight time since March 16, 1997.

"It was a good effort for us," Stojakovic said. "We knew Dallas was a good team and was going to play aggressive on both ends of the floor. We just approached this game just as aggressively and played good defense."

Dirk Nowitzki scored 16 points for Dallas, which began a tough six-game road trip that includes stops in Phoenix and Utah and was outplayed in every facet of the game. Dallas shot just 40 percent (36-of-89), got to the line only 13 times and was beaten on the boards, 46-37.

Dallas scored the first six points but Sacramento responded with an 11-0 run featuring seven points by Stojakovic, taking the lead for good. He scored 11 and Webber added 10 in the opening period, which ended with the Kings holding a 29-24 lead.

Reserve guard Bobby Jackson scored seven of his nine points in an 11-2 burst that opened the second quarter and gave the Kings a 40-26 lead with 7:45 left. The Mavs answered with eight in a row, which the Kings countered with a 9-0 spree. Webber had five, including a dunk for a 49-34 lead with 2:40 remaining.

The Kings led 54-41 at halftime and Stojakovic had five points in an 11-0 run that began the third quarter. His dunk gave Sacramento a 65-41 bulge with 9:13 left and basically settled matters.

The Kings took their largest lead at 101-71 on Jackson's basket with 4:58 remaining.

Doug Christie scored 13 points and Jason Williams added 12 and seven assists for the Kings. Michael Finley and Christian Laettner scored 12 apiece for the Mavericks.
