Game Story

OAKLAND, California (Ticker) -- Shooting over 50 percent from the field and outrebounding your opponent is a good formula for success. Committing 32 turnovers is not.

The Orlando Magic blew a nine-point lead in the closing minutes of the fourth quarter but capitalized on key turnovers in overtime for a 105-99 victory over the Golden State Warriors.

Hot-shooting Golden State's 32nd turnover of the game was the most critical and probably the most unnecessary. With 8.8 seconds remaining and Orlando holding a 101-99 lead, Warriors swingman Chris Mullin inbounded from mid-court.

Mookie Blaylock ran back to receive the pass and took a step back, allowing his foot to touch the center line even though Darrell Armstrong was not closely contesting the pass.

"That was a big, big turning point. I don't believe that call went down at that point in time," Golden State forward Danny Fortson said. "Stuff happens and it's tough to swallow because we played hard to get back in the game."

Orlando's Troy Hudson was immediately fouled after taking the inbounds pass and made two free throws for a 103-99 lead.

Antawn Jamison missed a desperation running jumper from the top of the arc with 2.5 seconds left and rookie Mike Miller sank two free throws for the final margin.

"We played with a lot of heart and everyone did a tremendous job with not giving up when we were down and continuing to play," Jamison said. "We just have to go back to the drawing board and find a way to get this out of the way."

Tracy McGrady had 24 points, eight rebounds and seven assists and backcourt partner Armstrong added 21 points for Orlando. Bo Outlaw tallied 14 points and 10 rebounds and Miller scored 11 in 17 minutes off the bench.

"I think we played off Tracy," Orlando coach Doc Rivers said. "He is really starting to learn. It's the little things. You've got to take tiny steps with a guy who is 21 years old."

"I just wanted to help," McGrady said. "I'm expected to carry this team while (Horace) Grant's gone. We've got to step everything up, but this team is starting to come together. I have great teammates, a great coaching staff and a great organization behind me."

Jamison scored 23 points and Fortson had 21 with 21 rebounds to help the Warriors to a 49-39 advantage on the boards. Golden State made 40-of-80 shots but lost its fifth straight game following a season-opening win against Phoenix.

The Warriors committed 87 turnovers in their last three games.

Don Reid and John Amaechi each had 10 points for Orlando, which shot 41 percent (41-of-94) from the field. The Magic were 86 percent (18-of-21) from the free throw line, including 6-of-6 in the extra session.

Orlando held an 88-78 lead after McGrady made an eight-footer from the baseline with 4:26 left in the fourth quarter. Jamison responded with a 17-footer to ignite Golden State's 12-3 run.

Chris Mills made a jumper in the lane and after Miller missed a 3-pointer, Jamison nailed a 13-footer to trim Orlando's lead to 88-85 with 2:57 to go. Pat Garrity made one free throw with 2:11 left to give the Magic an 89-85 lead.

Garrity scored eight points off the bench, with his biggest basket being a 3-pointer from the left wing that gave Orlando a 101-97 lead with 65 seconds left in overtime.

Jamison's jumper with 1:52 left cut Orlando's lead to 89-87 with 1:52 remaining in the fourth. Fortson pulled down a rebound after a miss by McGrady and Jamison converted a layup to tie the score with 1:16 left.

McGrady drove the lane and made a slick spin move before dropping in a layup that gave the Magic a 91-89 edge with 62 seconds remaining. Mullin's one-handed jumper from the left baseline again tied it with 45 seconds left.

Golden State had a chance to take the lead after Orlando failed to score on its possession. But Outlaw blocked Fortson's jumper with 1.6 seconds left and intercepted Mullin's inbound pass before time expired.

Blaylock made a 20-footer with 3:14 left in overtime to give the Warriors a 95-93 edge. Jamison made one free throw with 2:48 to go, but Armstrong answered with a 3-pointer to tie the game 18 seconds later.

Jamison again made only one free throw with 2:10 left and Outlaw sank a pair from the line to give the Magic a 98-97 edge 29 seconds later.

Armstrong scored 16 points, making 7-of-11 shots, in the first half as Orlando took a 49-41 lead into the locker room.
