Game Story

EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker) -- Ray Allen scored 30 points and Glenn Robinson added 27 as the Milwaukee Bucks handed the New Jersey Nets their ninth straight loss, 109-87.

The Bucks never trailed after the opening minute and led by as many as 23 points as they won for the fifth time in six games.

The Nets played their second straight game without leading scorer Stephon Marbury, who is sidelined with an ankle injury. They are working on the 14th losing streak of eight games or more in the 25-year NBA history of the franchise.

"Beating the Nets is like beating the Knicks." Milwaukee coach George Karl said. "It's like beating the Lakers. A win is a good win for us."

Not quite the same caliber of team, New Jersey gave up 21 points on 12 turnovers in the first half and fell behind, 62-45.

With under four minutes to play in the opening quarter, Allen nailed a 3-pointer and Robinson sank a 17-footer and his only 3-pointer to make it 33-18 with 1:56 left in the first quarter.

"We tried to jump on them from the beginning, we tried to jump on them quick," Robinson said. "They made their run, but they didn't have their horses in this game. It took a lot out of them when they made their run, but we made our run in the first quarter."

In addition to playing without their leading scorer, the Nets are still without startes Keith Van Horn and Kerry Kittles, who have missed the entire season, and Kendall Gill, who is nursing a knee injury.

The Nets used an 11-2 run to close to 92-80 with 6:24 left but the Bucks countered with an 8-0 run that included five points by Allen to seal the victory.

"We have to give tremendous effort." Nets coach Byron Scott said. "In practice and in games, that's all I know how to do. There are no magic words, but I've been there. You have to believe in the team, you have to believe in yourself."

Milwaukee's Sam Cassell added 13 points and 14 assists against his former team. His jumper with 6:45 to play in the second quarter gave the Bucks their largest lead at 51-27.

Sherman Douglas scored 18 points and rookie Kenyon Martin and Aaron Williams added 17 apiece for New Jersey, which shot just 40 percent (30-of-75) from the field.

"Teams coming in here aren't going to feel sorry for us if we lose," Williams said. "It's up to us to stop it (losing streak). We just gotta come out and play hard every night. I can't imagine it getting any worse than this."

The nine-game losing streak is the longest in the league this season.

"I guess we have something positive to look forward to when Steph, Keith and Kendall come back," Williams added. "We just have to weather the storm and keep playing hard until those guys get better."
