Game Story

MIAMI (Ticker) -- Eddie Jones scored six of his 23 points in the final 31 seconds, lifting the Miami Heat to their fourth straight victory, 80-76 over the reeling Atlanta Hawks.

Jones scored the final six points for Miami, which again blew a big lead but was able to recover against one of the league's worst teams.

"This was an ugly game." Miami center Brian Grant said. "They scratched and clawed their way back but we were able to hold them off."

A follow dunk by Dikembe Mutombo pulled Atlanta within 74-72 with 55 seconds to go. At the other end, Jones fouled out Hawks forward Alan Henderson, who had 22 points and 12 rebounds, and made both free throws for a four-point lead with 31 seconds to play.

Jason Terry split a pair of free throws and Jones made two more for a 78-73 lead with 26 seconds remaining. After Atlanta's Chris Crawford threw away a pass, Jones hit two more from the line to seal it with 10 seconds left.

Cedric Ceballos scored 15 points for the Heat, who defeated the Hawks for the second time in four nights. Miami won in Atlanta on Tuesday.

"When coach (Riley) calls 911, we come in and play as hard as possible," Ceballos said of the Heat's bench. "It has been a chance for us to come in, keep the lead and try to boost it higher."

Terry scored 17 points and Mutombo added 11 and 17 rebounds for the Hawks, which trailed by 13 points with under eight minutes to go.

"They're aggressive," said Terry, who shot 6-for-14 from the field. "That's an agreesive team. I'd say them (and Philly) are the most offensive teams right now."

Miami wasted a pair of big leads. In the third quarter, Atlanta used an 18-2 surge to climb into a 51-51 tie. Terry had six points and Mutombo four in the run.

The Heat responded with Bruce Bowen's layup and never trailed thereafter, although the Hawks again battled back in the final period.

Atlanta scored the game's first nine points. Miami missed eight of its first 10 shots but a jumper and two free throws by Jones gave the Heat an 18-16 lead.
