Game Story

MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- Glenn Robinson scored 20 of his 28 points in the fourth quarter as the Milwaukee Bucks used a late 11-0 run to defeat the Boston Celtics, 104-99.

Boston took a 91-89 lead with 3:59 to play on a dunk by Tony Battie before Robinson took over. After tying it on a post-up jumper, he put Milwaukee ahead for good, 93-91, with two free throws with 2:49 to play.

Robinson added a 12-footer and a 3-pointer before Sam Cassell's basket capped the run with 76 seconds left.

"Glenn made some great shots in the fourth quarter," Milwaukee coach George Karl said. "I wish we had played a little better. We struggled offensively and played good defensively, except for the fouls. Glenn took us for a ride in the fourth quarter and we won the ballgame."

Robinson made all five shots and 9-of-10 free throws in the final period as the Bucks moved a season-high two games over .500. Milwaukee held a 53-47 halftime lead.

"It came to me in the fourth quarter, but I had a lot of good looks," Robinson said. "They were double-teaming and it left me open. Not getting foul calls fired me up and I started feeling my shot."

Foul calls seemed to be the least of both teams' problems. They combined for 59 personal fouls and 67 free-throw attempts.

"I think everyone in this league needs to strive to make this a better game," Karl said. "That goes for the referees, coaches and the players. We need to make this a game that fans want to come see."

Tim Thomas scored 16 points off the bench while Cassell added 14 and six assists. Ervin Johnson pulled down 13 rebounds for the Bucks, who defeated the Celtics for the second time this season. Milwaukee shot 49 percent (35-of-71).

"I don't think we ran out of gas, I think that we just didn't make the passes we needed to make down the stretch to win," Boston coach Rick Pitino said. "What's disappointing is that we committed too many turnovers and got dominated on the glass. Tonight was one of the times that I've seen everyone in our locker room upset that they lost and feeling like they should've won."

Antoine Walker scored 33 points for the Celtics, who failed in a bid for their first three-game winning streak of the season. Paul Pierce added 28 points and seven rebounds for Boston, which shot 40 percent (34-of-84).

"We had some costly turnovers, but you have to credit their defense," Walker said. "They really stepped it up and made big plays when they needed to."

Walker made just 12-of-30 shots, including 3-of-11 from beyond the arc. Pierce also had a poor shooting night, going 8-of-23. Battie pulled down seven rebounds while Kenny Anderson added six assists.

Vitaly Potapenko scored 12 points for the Celtics, despite being limited to 21 minutes due to foul trouble.
