Game Story

PHOENIX (Ticker) -- Jason Kidd gave himself an early gift.

Kidd recorded his fourth triple-double of the season and the 35th of his career, helping the Phoenix Suns to a 102-93 victory over the Denver Nuggets.

Kidd scored 14 points and dished out 13 assists. He grabbed his 11th rebound with 24 seconds to play, but it was not officially recorded. So with 11 seconds remaining, Kidd pulled down the miss of Mark Strickland's layup.

The active leader in triple-doubles knocked down two free throws with 29 seconds to set the final margin.

Denver had made things interesting by running off eight straight points, getting within 100-93 on Calbert Cheaney's layup with 1:05 to go. But Rodney Rogers blocked Strickland's shot and George McCloud missed a jumper. The Suns capitalized with Kidd at the line to seal the win.

Tony Delk tied a career high with 26 points for Phoenix, connecting on nine straight shots in the fourth quarter. The Suns snapped a three-game slide while stopping the Nuggets' four-game winning streak.

McCloud scored 21 points and McDyess added 19 and 11 rebounds for Denver.

The Nuggets closed the third quarter with 12 consecutive points and tied it at 74-74 when McDyess split two free throws 19 seconds into the fourth.

But Phoenix took charge with a 16-2 run as Denver missed its first seven shots of the final period. Robert Pack made the Nuggets' first basket of the quarter with 6:28 to play.

The Suns' lead ballooned to 15 points at the start of the second half as Delk and Clifford Robinson each scored five points in a 14-6 burst. Delk started it with 10:01 to play in the third quarter on a jumper from the left baseline. He capped it with a bucket from the same spot to make it 69-54 with just over six minutes to play.

Denver connected on only three field goals during a 9 1/2-minute stretch in the second quarter. The Nuggets shot 38 percent in the first half and went in to the locker room, trailing, 53-44.
