Game Story

SAN ANTONIO (Ticker) -- Antonio Daniels scored a career-high 26 points and had a season-best 10 assists as the San Antonio Spurs continued their dominance of the Houston Rockets with a 103-95 victory.

The Spurs have won their last 10 games against the Rockets.

"We just play well against the Rockets," San Antonio forward Tim Duncan said. "They have a lot of isolations and I think we match up well against them."

San Antonio used a big third quarter to take command. After Steve Francis' layup pulled the Rockets within 61-59 with 8:14 left, the Spurs went on a 20-7 run, with Daniels and Duncan scoring seven points apiece. Duncan's three-point play made it 81-66 with 1:50 remaining and San Antonio had an 86-74 lead after three quarters.

"Daniels had a good game," San Antonio coach Greg Popovich said. "He kept things rolling for the team with his scoring and his effort. We are more impressed how he worked on his defense. He really kept us in the game."

Popovich was ejected with six seconds left in the first quarter for arguing a foul call on Daniels, who made 8-of-13 shots and had his best game since replacing injured points guard Avery Johnson.

The Spurs led by as many as 18 points in the fourth and survived a late rally by the Rockets. Kenny Thomas' two free throws with 1:07 left cut the deficit to 101-95. But Daniels' steal and dunk with 33 seconds left sealed the win.

Duncan finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds to pick up his 23rd double-double in his last 28 games. Robinson also had a double-double with 17 and 12 for the Spurs, who shot 48 percent (38-of-79).

The Spurs made 7-of-14 3-pointers, led by Daniels' four. Backcourt mate Derek Anderson added 11 points.

"Antonio Daniels had a phenomenal shooting game," Houston coach Rudy Tomjanovich said. "The other guys played well but he was big. He was the difference."

Francis scored 21 points while Cuttino Mobley added 17 for Houston -- both were listed as questionable before the contest, Francis with a sprained ankle and Mobley with a hyperextended left elbow.

Mobley did not play in the final 12 minutes after apparently injuring his hand on a dunk in the third quarter.

Houston shot itself in the foot by making just 16-of-28 free throws. The Rockets' 12 turnovers resulted in 20 San Antonio points.

Thomas had nine rebounds and Francis and Walt Williams grabbed eight apiece for the Rockets, who shot 44 percent (38-of-87).
