Game Story

MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- The Orlando Magic may have had a Christmas hangover, but the holiday season has been nothing but kind to the Milwaukee Bucks.

Ray Allen scored 16 of his 25 points in the second half and made four 3-pointers in the final quarter as the Bucks won for the 12th time in 15 games, 89-77 over the Magic.

Milwaukee (15-12) beat Orlando for the second time in as many meetings this year and improved to a season-high three games over .500 despite winning just three of its first 12 contests through Thanksgiving weekend.

But the Bucks have turned their campaign around since and tonight held the Magic to just 12 second-quarter points and did not trail in the fourth quarter. Tim Thomas and Allen drained back-to-back 3-pointers to begin the fourth, opening a 64-57 lead.

"Some people got down on us early, but we still knew we were a great team," said Allen, who was 5-of-9 from beyond the arc. "We've been winning the games we're supposed to win against some pretty good teams."

Another 3-pointer by Allen pushed the lead to eight points with 9 1/2 minutes to go, but the Bucks' second-leading scorer (21.3 ppg) then went to the bench for a brief rest and the Magic scored five straight points to fight within 69-66 on Tracy McGrady's dunk.

Allen returned and drained a 3-pointer during a 9-2 burst that gave the Bucks a 78-68 lead and demoralized the Magic (12-16), who lost in Indiana on Monday and never got closer than eight points thereafter.

"I thought tonight's game was a pretty mature game for us," said Milwaukee coach George Karl. "To be honest, Ray won the game with his threes."

Allen's fourth 3-pointer of the quarter came with 2:45 to play and made it 83-72. The Bucks, who scored just 13 points in the third quarter, eventually built the lead to 17 entering the final minute.

"We didn't find Ray Allen in transition tonight and he killed us in the fourth quarter," said McGrady. "We need to grow and overcome these errors to win these games."

Glenn Robinson scored 15 points and Sam Cassell contributed 12 for the Bucks, who overcame a 48-46 rebounding disadvantage but shot 44 percent (32-of-73) compared to 33 percent (29-of-88) by the Magic.

Milwaukee was 7-of-18 from beyond the arc, while Orlando made just four of its 17 3-point attempts.

"There is no guarantee that you will win if you play hard, but if you don't, you'll lose," said Orlando coach Doc Rivers. "No one is going to cry for this team. We're young and need to keep fighting."

McGrady netted 26, Darrell Armstrong 20 and Michael Doleac 12 for Orlando, which was unable to capitalize on a 13-2 advantage in second-chance points.

"Defensively, we were supper," Karl said. "Everybody was great on McGrady. We made him miss a lot of shots. McGrady is one of those guys that's hard to stop from getting numbers. We did a good job of controlling him.

McGrady came in averaging 26 points but was 10-of-26 from the field and had four turnovers.

"Tracy McGrady didn't have a good night tonight, but he's human," said Rivers. "He's not going to have a great game every night."

The Magic committed 18 turnovers, leading to 22 Milwaukee points.

"The effort is always there with us," McGrady said. "We just don't finish off ballgames for whatever reason. We have to find a way to win these games."
