Game Story

CHICAGO (Ticker) -- Chicago native Michael Finley scored 30 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the Dallas Mavericks remained unbeaten on their five-game road trip with a 104-91 win over the Bulls.

Fred Hoiberg's 3-pointer with seven minutes left pulled Chicago within 83-81. But Dallas scored 11 straight points, capped Steve Nash's 3-pointer, to seal the victory. The Mavericks led by as much as 17 points as they won their sixth straight on the road to improve to 13-7 away from home.

"It's always good to play well, but especially in your hometown," Finley said. "It was good to come here and get a win in front of family and friends."

"Michael Finley did all he could," Mavs acting coach Donnie Nelson said. "He carried this team on his back for a good part of the game. He always wants to put his best foot forward in front of his hometown. He's our All-Star and he showed it tonight."

Dirk Nowitzki added 22 points and 10 rebounds for his eighth double-double in his last nine games. Nash added 14 points for the Mavericks, who shot 48 percent (39-of-82).

Shawn Bradley made all five shots from the floor and finished with 12 points and eight rebounds. Christian Laettner and Howard Eisley added 10 points apiece.

Dallas is 3-0 on its road trip, which concludes with games at Minnesota and Milwaukee.

"We knew it would be tough coming in here," Finley said. "The Bulls have been playing great basketball and are much improved from the first time we played them. We knew in the second half we'd be able to get to them, even though they had stayed close in the first half."

Elton Brand scored 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while Khalid El-Amin added 18 points for Chicago, which missed a chance to win consecutive games for the first time this season. The Bulls have alternated wins and losses in their last six games.

"Khalid came off the bench and provided a big spark," Brand said. "Khalid is a solid offensive player. If we set the screen, he will shoot well."

Chicago shot 51 percent (38-of-75), despite a 2-of-12 outing by Ron Mercer, who scored just four points. But the Bulls were undone by 18 turnovers, which Dallas converted into 27 points.

"It was a good ballgame," Brand said. "We cut it to one or two but could not capitalize. Our defense did not play well at the end."

El-Amin scored with 6:09 left in the second quarter to give the Bulls a 39-34 lead. The Mavericks took the lead for good with 12 points in 90 seconds, including two long 3-pointers by Finley.

Dallas led 55-50 at halftime as Finley scored 14 points and Nowitzki 12. Brand had 11 at the intermission.

Dallas swept the season series, having won 105-86 on December 8 behind 22 points from Nash.
