Game Story

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (Ticker) -- The Vancouver Grizzlies finally got a monkey off their back, recording their first-ever victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers, 119-107.

Michael Dickerson scored a season-high 32 points and Mike Bibby added 20 and 16 assists as Vancouver ended an eight-game losing streak against Cleveland. The Indiana Pacers are the only team the Grizzlies have not defeated since entering the NBA in 1995.

"We had a good game as a whole," Dickerson said. "The team had a good game. There are going to be nights when we can't make baskets, but tonight was a night when everybody was making baskets. Everyone just played smart tonight. We made good decisions and we got the buckets when we needed them. People just made plays tonight."

Vancouver used a 9-2 run late in the fourth quarter to stop the Cavs' momentum. Shareef Abdur-Rahim dunked, Bibby nailed a 3-pointer and Dickerson and Rahim made free throws to push the Grizzlies' lead to 119-105 with 24 seconds left.

Bibby has 34 assists in his last two games and the team had a season-high 36 on Saturday night.

"The team is doing something right," Bibby said. "They are knocking down the shots. I think I am just getting them the ball where they feel comfortable. I think pushing the ball is my thing. I like pushing the ball, it gets me making decisions, and I like making decisions.

Losers of three straight, the Cavs got within 110-103 on Chris Gatling's layup with 1:46 left. Gatling scored 27 points and Lamond Murray had 23 for Cleveland, which dropped below .500 for the first time this season and are 2-11 since winning six straight at the start of December.

Andre Miller added 17 points and 10 assists for the Cavs.

"Its just a matter of coming out and playing 48 minutes," Murray said. "We were trying to put things together, but we only did it in spurts."

Seven players scored in double figures for Vancouver, which shot 57 percent (44-of-77). Abdur-Rahim finished with 18 points and 13 rebounds and Bryant Reeves had 13 points and a season-high 16 boards.

The Grizzlies have won four straight against Eastern Conference opponents and are 6-3 at home vs. the East.

The first quarter was tight, with neither team leading by more than five points. Two free throws by Damon Jones in the final seconds put Vancouver in front, 30-29.

Jones also nailed a 3-pointer to spark a 7-0 run that ended with a short jumper by Abdur-Rahim as the Grizzlies extended their lead to 41-33 with 8:16 left before halftime. Cleveland got back within three points on a 17-footer by Clarence Weatherspoon, but Vancouver answered with a 6-0 burst and took a 47-38 lead on two free throws by Reeves with 4 1/2 minutes remaining.
