Game Story

HOUSTON (Ticker) -- Steve Francis recorded his second career triple-double and Cuttino Mobley scored 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the Houston Rockets used a big third quarter to rout the Vancouver Grizzlies, 106-89.

Playing against the team that drafted him, Francis had 13 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds as Houston snapped a three-game losing streak and handed Vancouver its seventh straight defeat.

"It felt good," said Francis about the triple-double. "There were a lot of opportunities that I had come up short. Tonight, it just came in the flow. I just wanted to come out and play my game, rebounding and scoring whenever I could."

"We needed one like this," Houston coach Rudy Tomjanovich said. "We've been playing hard and coming up short. It's good to get one on the positive side of the ledger."

Houston led 59-49 at halftime and slowly and methodically pulled away in the third quarter. A 6-2 run gave the Rockets a 65-51 cushion 1 1/2 minutes into the second half. Houston closed the period with a 16-7 spurt for a 91-68 lead.

Hakeem Olajuwon scored 17 points in 22 minutes in his first start since coming off the injured list on Wednesday. The center had not started since December 30.

"I thought he was real good and I didn't even know if he thought that he was going to start," Tomjanovich said. "I thought they were going to start (Bryant) Reeves so we decided to start `Dream'. He was very productive."

The Rockets enjoyed a 53-35 rebounding advantage as Carlos Rogers grabbed seven off the bench.

Former Rocket Michael Dickerson led Vancouver with 25 points but had only four in the second half. Shareef Abdur-Rahim added 17 points on 8-of-15 shooting as the Grizzlies fell to 0-3 against the Rockets this season. Abdur-Rahim left the game early due to back spasms.

"It's sore and very tight," Abdur-Rahim said about his back. "It was tight before the game and after the first move I made, it triggered it and I felt something pull and I was in pain from there on."

The Grizzlies took a 33-29 lead in the second quarter on a layup by Mike Bibby two minutes into the second quarter. Rogers' tip-in capped a 12-2 run to give the Rockets a 41-35 lead with 7:08 left.

"I told the guys on one hand I thought we came out at the start of the game real well but then we hit a stretch where nothing came out right," Vancouver coach Sidney Lowe said. "We had played so well and then there was a complete lack of concentration."

Bibby had 14 points and eight assists while Damon Jones scored 10 and grabbed seven rebounds as Vancouver shot 47 percent (40-of-85).

Vancouver lost for the 15th time in its last 18 outings.
