Game Story

SAN ANTONIO (Ticker) -- Tim Duncan had 22 points and 16 rebounds and David Robinson contributed 15 and 10 as the San Antonio Spurs rolled to their 12th straight victory over the Los Angeles Clippers, 92-70, completing a home-and-home sweep.

Duncan and Robinson made sure the Spurs remained unbeaten vs. Los Angeles since December 4, 1997 and matched a season high with their fifth straight win. The All-Star duo combined for 36 points and 14 rebounds in Monday's 96-67 drubbing of the Clippers.

The Spurs also won five in a row from December 30-January 12, but dropped a season-high four in a row thereafter.

"We just came off a four-game losing streak, which kind of woke us up in the middle of these slow times," Robinson said.

"Our chemistry is coming together," Duncan said. "This is a great run to end this first half of the season. We are feeling really good about ourselves and we're playing well."

Michael Olowokandi scored 14 points for the last-place Clippers, who have lost nine in a row for the first time since dropping the first 17 games of the lockout-shortened 1999 season.

Los Angeles has not won at the Alamodome since January 5, 1997.

Malik Rose and Derek Anderson scored 13 points apiece and Terry Porter added 12 as all five San Antonio starters reached double figures.

"Things are looking good for us right now," San Antonio guard Antonio Daniels said. "But we just want to continue to play well. Defensively, that's where we have turned the corner. David's done a great job of anchoring our defense, blocking shots and getting the ball out on the break."

The Spurs raced to a 23-16 lead after 12 minutes but Los Angeles did prove stubborn in the early going and stayed within 37-34 at the half.

Eric Piatkowski hit a technical foul shot as the Clippers closed to 37-35 early in the third quarter but Porter, Duncan and Robinson made layups and Robinson added two free throws as San Antonio opened a 47-39 cushion with 6:19 left.

"You hope your players are self-motivated," San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich said. "But the best thing is to have players who are self-motivated and really have a goal in mind and are committed to that. There are no tricks or plays you can run to make people motivated."

Things got ugly toward the end of the third quarter when Duncan hit a 16-footer and Anderson converted a three-point play to make it 65-48. Anderson's 3-pointer at the buzzer made it 68-50.

"We did everything the same (in the second half)," Popovich said. "We just did it better and did it harder. It was just a matter of bringing the juice and taking things seriously. Remembering where you want to be at the end of the year and not making any more missteps."

The Spurs shot 43.5 percent (37-of-85), held a 52-49 rebounding edge and yielded just seven points off turnovers while scoring 16 off Los Angeles giveaways.

Rookie Quentin Richardson and Corey Maggette scored eight points apiece for the Clippers, who shot 36 percent. Forward Lamar Odom had a rough night, managing just seven points on 3-of-11 shooting.

"We are just going through that slump right now that we knew would come," Odom said. "Right now we just have to try and stay in these games. We are not shooting well right now. I know, myself personally, I have to be more consistent in my shooting."

The Clippers were outscored, 15-7, at the line and did not score 20 points in a quarter until the final period.
