Game Story

OAKLAND, California (Ticker) -- Jason Terry matched a career high with 38 points and the Atlanta Hawks won consecutive games for the first time in more than a month with a 98-91 victory over the floundering Golden State Warriors.

Terry buried 13-of-21 shots, all nine free throws and handed out five assists, including a brilliant feed to Lorenzen Wright for a three-point play that all but sealed the win in the final minute.

"The main factor in the fourth quarter was us making big shots and executing our offense," Terry said. "The thing that has been plaguing us all year is not being able to execute in the fourth quarter."

With the Hawks clinging to an 89-88 lead, Terry drove the lane, drew a pair of defenders while leaping and slipped a no-look pass to Wright, who drew a foul from Antawn Jamison before dunking.

The ensuing free throw made it 92-88 with 52 seconds left and Terry hit four from the line the rest of the way to cement Atlanta's first back-to-back wins since January 13-15.

"Jason was basically Jason tonight, doing what he always does for us, and that's coming out and scoring and leading this team," Wright said. "He's one of the best guards in the league right now."

Terry also scored 38 points against Sacramento on December 12.

"Jason's been remarkable lately," Hawks coach Lon Kruger said. "He keeps attacking and getting in the face of the defense of our opponents. He gets a lot of attention and he still remains very aggressive."

Wright had 17 points and 16 rebounds for the Hawks, who have won nine of the last 12 meetings with the Warriors.

Jamison scored 37 points but just six in the fourth quarter for the Warriors, who have lost four in a row -- including an embarrassing home-and-home series to Vancouver -- since the All-Star break.

"In another game, we just didn't find a way to win," Jamison said. "Down the stretch, once again, we couldn't hit shots. That's why we lost the lead. That was the outcome."

Chris Crawford scored 14 points and Brevin Knight added eight and nine assists for the Hawks, who shot 45 percent (37-of-82) and yielded 25 points off turnovers.

Larry Hughes scored 15 points and Bobby Sura added 12 for Golden State, which shot 36 percent (34-of-95) and held a 57-49 rebounding advantage.

Terry exploded early, scoring 16 first-quarter points to give the Hawks a 34-27 lead. But the Warriors came roaring back behind Jamison, who had 21 points, pulling within 50-49 at halftime.

"(Terry's) a rising superstar in this league and the last couple of weeks, he's been doing everything. He's been giving me headaches since college," said Jamison.

Golden State carried the momentum into the third quarter as Hughes and Sura hit back-to-back jumpers to cap a 10-0 run that opened the second half and gave the Warriors a 59-50 lead.

Terry closed the third-quarter scoring with a 3-pointer and Larry Robinson hit a pair early in the final period as Atlanta closed to 78-77. The Hawks took the lead for good with 7:16 to play, when rookie DerMarr Johnson drilled a 3-pointer to break an 82-82 tie.
