Game Story

SACRAMENTO, California (Ticker) -- Peja Stojakovic scored 25 points and Vlade Divac added 24 and 12 rebounds as the Sacramento Kings rallied for a 106-93 overtime win over the Los Angeles Clippers, who were undone by late fouls and turnovers.

After Jeff McInnis' jumper gave Los Angeles an 86-81 lead with 3:05 left in regulation, the Kings began their comeback. Stojakovic converted a three-point play and McInnis missed a 19-foot jumper. Lamar Odom turned the ball over and Stojakovic converted at the other end to forge an 86-86 tie wtih 1:22 left in the fourth quarter.

Eric Piatkowski made a pair of free throws to put the Clippers in front in the final minute, but Sean Rooks fouled Divac, poking the veteran center in the eye. Divac made the first of two free throws, cutting the deficit to 88-87 with 22.6 seconds left.

After McInnis went 1-of-2 from the line, Michael Olowkandi fouled Divac with 15.7 seconds to go and Divac drained both shots to knot it at 89-89.

On the following possession, McInnis worked the shot clock, drove the left side and dished out to Rooks, who missed a 19-foot jumper as time expired.

The Kings thoroughly dominated overtime, outscoring Los Angeles, 17-4. They started the extra session with a 14-0 run, holding the Clippers scoreless until Piatkowski scored on a goaltending call.

Scot Pollard had 17 points and 11 rebounds and Bobby Jackson contributed 16 on 6-of-6 shooting off the bench for the Kings, who have won four of their last five games and moved into a tie with the Los Angeles Lakers for second place in the Pacific Division.

"We just didn't show up tonight," Pollard said. "We expected the crowd to win the game for us. I don't really have a reason, we just didn't play for the first four quarters. You saw it in overtime, we just finally took control of the game. We played hard, we made shots, we made plays, we executed and got rebounds and won the game, blew it open."

Sacramento has played the last eight games without leading scorer and rebounder Chris Webber, who has a sprained left ankle.

"We were really fortunate to win this game, obviously in overtime we were really active and aggressive but it took us, what seemed like 48 minutes to get going," Kings coach Rick Adelman said. "I give the Clippers credit, they've played well the last 2 1/2 weeks. I told the team that we were fortunate to get to overtime and we did a good job. I hope we learned from it."

McInnis scored a career-high 33 points and Odom added 16 for Los Angeles, which has lost two in a row since a season-high four-game winning streak. The Clippers fell to 5-11 against the Pacific Division and 8-23 on the road. Los Angeles had won its last two overtime contests after losing losing nine consecutive overtime games dating to the 1998-99 season.

"We never should have got into overtime -- that's where our problem lies, not the fact that we got to overtime and played the way we did," Los Angeles coach Alvin Gentry said. "We didn't make the necessary plays to win the game, and at some point we've got to quit using the fact that we're young as an excuse. We've played six games now and we need to figure out how to close out games. We didn't close out the game. We had a chance to walk to the line and make free throws."

Los Angeles led throughout most of the first half but the Kings began the third with a 12-5 run, taking a 59-53 advantage on Stojakovic's 3-pointer with 5:09 left quarter.

Ater Jackson's basket put Sacramento ahead by 71-67 with 10:04 remaining in the fourth, the Clippers answered with jumpers by Odom and McInnis.

Rookie Hedo Turkoglu's basket restored Sacramento's four-point lead but Odom nailed a 3-pointer and made a hook shot to give Los Angeles the lead, 76-75, with 7:15 remaining.

However, two minutes later Odom made only one of two free throws and Turkoglu hit an 18-footer to knot the contest at 77-77 with 4:43 to go in the quarter. McInnis responded with a 3-pointer and Rooks added a 17-foot jumper before the Clippers fell apart, eventually losing to Sacramento for the fifth straight time and seventh in the last nine meetings.

"We lost in the game in the last minutes of regulation," Odom said. "We have to find a way to get a stop in that tight of a game. There were just a few plays that we wish we could take back. We've been playing in so many close games lately that we can't blame our youth anymore."

Doug Christie chipped in 10 points and five rebounds and Jason Williams and Turkoglu had six points apiece for the Kings, who shot 46 percent (40-for-86) from the field, including 6-of-13 (46 percent) from 3-point range.

Piatkowski finished with 15 points and seven rebounds but Olowokandi fouled out with eight points and nine rebounds for Los Angeles, which shot 48 percent (40-for-82).
