Game Story

ORLANDO, Florida (Ticker) -- Tracy McGrady scored 33 points and Darrell Armstrong added 17 as the Orlando Magic won for the third time in four games with a 105-93 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves.

McGrady made 12-of-28 shots and grabbed six rebounds as Orlando improved to 10-2 all-time at home against Minnesota. The Magic committed just seven turnovers while compiling 20 assists and have won 13 of the last 15 overall meetings with the Timberwolves.

Rookie of the Year candidate Mike Miller contributed 14 points and Monty Williams added 13 off the bench for the Magic, who shot 45 percent (38-of-85) from the field. Reserve Don Reid had 11 points and 13 rebounds as Orlando's bench outscored Minnesota's 29-19.

"We were joking that we should play all our games on the weekends because we get packed houses," Williams said of the crowd of 17,248. "When we get packed houses like this, it definitely gives us a lot of energy. The crowd was in it, especially when we made our run tonight. They helped us."

Kevin Garnett recorded 21 points and 15 rebounds and Anthony Peeler scored 18 points for Minnesota, which shot 42 percent (36-of-86) and has lost consecutive games following a four-game streak.

"My thing is you can't really give excuses that you played last night," Garnett said. "They have a Tracy McGrady, a Darrell Armstrong running the offense, a helluva bench. They did a lot of trapping and rotating. They made us pay for it when we messed up. That is what good teams do."

Orlando got off to a rough start, making just 8-of-24 shots in the first quarter and falling behind, 25-23. But the Magic started the second period with a 10-4 surge and opened a 35-27 lead on McGrady's three-point play with 8:02 remaining.

McGrady scored 19 points in the first half as the Magic took a 51-47 lead. Terrell Brandon scored 11 of his 15 points in the first half for Minnesota.

Wally Szczerbiak, who made 9-of-12 shots and scored 22 points in a 109-100 home win over Minnesota on January 25, made just 3-of-9 shots over the first three quarters. He finished with 16 points and equaled his career high with 12 rebounds.

"It was a tough game overall to play," Minnesota coach Flip Saunders said. "Both teams had a tough time trying to get into any kind of flow. They played well. McGrady was great. He did the job defensively on Wally in the first half."

"I kind of got tired of them messing with me about (how) Szczerbiak killed me the last time we faced them," McGrady said. "I wanted to make sure that he was going to come out and he was going to have to bring out all his tricks to try to kill me tonight. I was going to be aggressive with him, I was going to do whatever it takes to take him out of the game."

Reggie Slater opened the third with a jumper in the paint to cut Orlando's lead to two. The Magic answered with a 9-2 burst to push the margin to 60-51 when Armstrong hit a 3-pointer 9:19 remaining.

Orlando led, 85-72, after three periods. The Magic's biggest lead was 103-87 on a 3-pointer by McGrady with 3:03 to play.
