Game Story

PHOENIX (Ticker) -- Jason Kidd had 30 points, 17 assists and nine rebounds as the Phoenix Suns won a season-high seventh straight home game, 109-100 over the Seattle SuperSonics.

Kidd had six points and four assists in a pair of key spurts in the fourth quarter as the Suns won for the 11th time in their last 14 games and moved within one-half game of Portland for the sixth spot in the Western Conference playoff race.

Kidd made just 10-of-22 shots but drained 4-of-8 from the arc.

"Tonight, they were going to let me shoot the 3-pointer. Most teams will. I was just trying to take advantage of that," said Kidd, who fell just shy of his eighth triple-double of the season. "I just want to take what the defense gives me. The game is all about rhythm. The flow of the game and keeping control, making sure we get a shot every time we go down is also the key."

Phoenix led by a basket with 7:37 to go when Kidd fed Clifford Robinson for a 3-pointer that sparked an 11-2 run.

Kidd also nailed a 3-pointer during the spurt and capped it by dishing to Carlos Rogers for a fast-break layup that made it 96-85 with 4:33 left.

Seattle scored five straight to climb within six before Kidd orchestrated a 7-0 run that put the game out of reach. Kidd made three free throws during the stretch and added two assists on a pair of baskets by Robinson and Shawn Marion.

"They just wanted the game more than we did," Seattle coach Nate McMillan said. "They won the hustle game, which is what we talked about at the start of the game. You could see they were just the more aggressive team."

Marion had 20 points and 13 rebounds and Robinson also scored 20 and drained 3-of-4 3-pointers for the Suns, who shot 42 percent (9-of-21) from the arc.

Seattle shot 57 percent (8-of-14) from 3-point range but could not avoid its third straight road loss.

Rashard Lewis had 27 points and eight rebounds and Patrick Ewing added a season-high 21 and eight for the Sonics, who lost a trio of forwards to injury during the game.

Vin Baker, who was questionable before the game with knee woes, aggravated the injury in the first quarter. Ruben Patterson sprained his left ankle in the second quarter and did not return and Jelani McCoy suffered the same injury in the third and did not come back.

"When you come out and you don't play the game the right way you will get injured," McMillan said. "Not to say that some of those injuries came in that situation, but I don't think we came out wanting to win this game."

"Even though the season is over for us, we still have to come out and perform and try to play the best we possibly can," Ewing said.
