Game Story

LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- Elton Brand had 24 points and 11 rebounds as the Los Angeles Clippers celebrated their return home from an exhausting road trip with a 109-103 victory over the struggling Cleveland Cavaliers.

Quentin Richardson added 22 points and Michael Olowokandi contributed a season-high 19 points and 11 rebounds for the Clippers, who won just once on their six-game trip.

"We played really good and everyone was solid," Los Angeles coach Alvin Gentry said. "Quentin played great. Michael was terrific when we needed baskets. He's just getting better and better."

Los Angeles improved to 12-2 in its last 14 home games and is 17-7 at Staples Center this season.

Lamond Murray had 24 points and six rebounds for Cleveland but left in the fourth quarter with a broken nose after getting elbowed by Clippers forward Darius Miles.

"I'm really irritated right now," Murray said. "It was probably an accident. It is broken. I have to get it set tomorrow. My head is pounding and once they reset it and give me a mask I'll be all right."

Andre Miller also scored 24 points and dished out 10 assists while Zydrunas Ilgauskas chipped in 16 as the Cavaliers lost their ninth straight game and completed a winless six-game stretch against Western Conference opponents.

Two other injuries occured Friday. Clippers forward Lamar Odom left with 4:03 remaining in the third quarter with a sore right wrist while referee Courtney Kirkland went out midway through the fourth with a pulled right groin.

According Gentry, Odom is expected to be out three to four games.

In a game that featured 20 lead changes and 14 ties, neither team led by more than six points throughout the first three quarters. But Los Angeles started the fourth quarter with a 15-5 run to take its largest lead, 88-74, with 7:58 left.

Richardson scored 10 of his 11 fourth-quarter points in the run, which was capped by Miles' driving dunk -- one of three in the quarter.

"We just had to come out and execute," Richardson said. "We knew the Cavs had been on the road for a long time, and that they were tired. We had to try and get going early."

Murray rallied Cleveland before leaving with the injury and the Cavaliers pulled within 106-101 with less than 30 seconds to go.

Corey Maggette made two free throws but Jumaine Jones hit another basket with 25 seconds remaining. Maggette converted one of two from the line with 23 seconds left to seal Los Angeles' third straight win over Cleveland.

"That run that they had, that was the big difference in the game," Cavaliers guard Wesley Person said. "We need to get that feeling back, where we know what it is like to win ... but this team is very competitive."

Miller thought the key to the game was free throws and points in transition. Cleveland was 18-of-26 from the line while Los Angeles went 24-of-30.

"They got to the free throw line and got some easy points on the break," he said. "That's how they wound up with a decent lead."

Jeff McInnis had 15 points and eight assists and Miles finished with nine points for the Clippers, who shot 52 percent (40-of-77) from the field and outrebounded the Cavs, 37-31. Los Angeles owned a 56-42 edge in points in the paint.

Jones collected 14 points and five rebounds for the Cavaliers, who also shot 52 percent (40-of-77). Cleveland fell to 0-23 when trailing after three quarters.
