Game Story

SACRAMENTO, California (Ticker) -- While the Sacramento Kings got a big game from their bench, the Memphis Grizzlies were forced to start theirs.

Scot Pollard scored a season-high 14 points to lead three reserves in double figures as the Kings outclassed the Grizzlies, 112-98, for their league season-high 12th straight victory.

Chris Webber had 24 points and 11 rebounds for the Kings, who had seven players score in double digits in their 16th straight home win. Besides Pollard, Hedo Turkoglu scored 12 points and Bobby Jackson added 11.

"We came out in the second half with a lot more intensity," Jackson said. "Coach (Rick) Adelman left it up to us at halftime to realize what we had to do to get things done."

Pollard made 7-of-11 shots and grabbed 11 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season. He also teamed with Webber to power an 11-2 burst at the end of the third quarter that gave Sacramento a 91-74 lead.

The Grizzlies would love to have that kind of depth. Already with center Lorenzen Wright and guard Michael Dickerson on the injured list, Memphis was without its current starting backcourt of former King Jason Williams and rookie Shane Battier.

"I wish Jason Williams was out there tonight," Kings center Vlade Divac said. "I miss him. It would have been nice to see him out there on the court."

Williams came down with migraine headaches and Battier has been nursing a groin injury. They were replaced by Brevin Knight and Rodney Buford, who played well but left the bench extremely thin.

"We know we're shorthanded, but that's how the league is," said Buford, who scored 18 points. "Some nights you have everyone and some nights you don't. You just have to make the best of the situation and the other guys have to step up."

The Grizzlies' bench consisted of second-year forward Stromile Swift, rookies Will Solomon and Antonis Fotsis and veteran Nick Anderson, another former King who rarely plays. The quartet was outscored, 37-21, by Sacramento's reserves.

"We still have to go out there and play as tough as we can and these guys have been doing this," Memphis coach Sidney Lowe said. "I just ask our trainer each night who we have and go from there, and then you go to war.

"No question, we missed both of those guys. That's a lot of points and a lot of leadership and we missed them a great deal. I thought Brevin Knight and Rodney Buford did a great job of stepping in. We just didn't have enough juice."

Peja Stojakovic scored 21 points and Doug Christie added 14 for the Kings, whose 31-9 start is the best in franchise history. Their overall winning streak is the third-longest in franchise annals.

"The 12-game win streak is nice, but we are not satisfied with it," Webber said. "We are not sitting here, Laker-watching. I love the fact that we realize that we need to get better before we are satisfied. I want to be champion; I want it."

Tony Massenburg scored a season-high 23 points and rookie Pau Gasol added 16 for the Grizzlies, who have lost four in a row following a season-high three-game winning streak.

Knight had 12 points and 10 assists and Swift added 12 and 11 rebounds. Memphis shot 56 percent (41-of-73) from the field -- just the third time this season it has been above 50 percent -- but offset it with 24 turnovers.

"We tried to come out and play hard," Swift said. "We know we were a little shorthanded, but we played hard and stayed in the game."

Gasol and Buford scored 11 points each and Knight added 10 to keep the Grizzlies within 59-55 at halftime. Buford's jumper tied it, 63-63, with 8:44 left in the third quarter.

But the Kings rattled off the next nine points. Mike Bibby began and ended the spurt with jumpers, giving Sacramento a 72-63 lead just 81 seconds later.

Memphis was still within 80-72 before Sacramento closed the quarter with an 11-2 burst. Webber and Pollard scored four points apiece to make it 91-74 entering the final period.

The Grizzlies got no closer than 12 points thereafter. They have dropped seven of the last eight meetings with the Kings.

Sacramento shot 49 percent (46-of-94) and scored 30 points off Memphis turnovers.
