Game Story

CHICAGO (Ticker) -- Brad Miller had a season-high 32 points and 12 rebounds and A.J. Guyton added a season-high 16 points as the Chicago Bulls rallied for a 95-92 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies in a meeting of the NBA's worst teams.

The Grizzlies (12-31) have the worst record in the Western Conference, 21 games behind the Sacramento Kings, but were still three games better than the Bulls (9-33) entering the game. Chicago is the only team yet to reach 10 wins but inched closer with its third win in 11 games.

The Bulls trailed 79-69 entering the fourth quarter but went on an 11-3 run midway through the period, closing within 86-85 on a basket by A.J. Guyton with 5:28 to go.

Memphis' Jason Williams nailed a 3-pointer followed by 1-of-2 free throws from rookie Shane Battier with 4:24 left.

Chicago rookie Trent Hassell responded with a 3-pointer and, after two more free throws from Battier, Guyton nailed another to make it 93-92 at 2:17.

Ron Artest made a layup 48 seconds later to give the Bulls their first lead since the first quarter. He twice stole the ball from Battier in the final 90 seconds to help seal the win.

"I just try to do the little things so we can try to get a win," Artest said. "He did not see me and I snuck in and stole the ball. It was great game, we had guys stepping up. We played great defense at the end."

"It was a terrible display of basketball the last six minutes or so," Grizzlies coach Sidney Lowe said. "I felt there was some quitting out there. We stopped being aggressive. I saw too much pouting, like babies out there. We just didn't finish the game."

Artest finished with eight points, nine rebounds and five assists as the Bulls improved to 6-1 against the Grizzlies at the United Center.

"Guyton got the opportunity to play and he played well," Bulls coach Bill Cartwright said. "Everybody really had a hand in it. Any win in this building is important. We want to establish ourselves here. We want to be a tough team to play here."

Chicago shot just 42 percent (35-of-83) but made 8-of-15 3-pointers and 17-of-21 free throws. It also held a 44-37 rebounding advantage and collected 17 offensive rebounds.

Rookie Pau Gasol scored 26 points on 10-of-13 shooting but was held to one point in the final period. Williams finished with 22 points, making 4-of-11 3-pointers.

"We had no intensity in the fourth quarter," Gasol said. "They made good shots at the end, but we let it go. It was as if the game had been won and it wasn't."

Battier had 17 points, eight rebounds and seven assists after missing four games with a groin injury.

The Grizzlies made 12-of-23 shots in the first quarter and had 42-39 advantage with 6:19 left in the second before reeling off seven straight points. Gasol provided all the offense during the burst and Memphis took a 58-52 lead into halftime.

The Grizzlies scored nine of the first 13 points in the second half led by Williams, who nailed two jumpers and a 3-pointer during the stretch.

Gasol scored eight points in the third and capped the quarter with a three-point play to give Memphis a 79-69 cushion.
