Game Story

SALT LAKE CITY (Ticker) -- Karl Malone said he wasn't big on the revenge factor. He was right.

Even on their home court, Malone's Utah Jazz were no match for the Sacramento Kings, who had seven players in double figures as they swept the home-and-home series with a 114-90 rout.

After Thursday's 113-80 loss in Sacramento, Malone scoffed, "I don't get caught up in that revenge stuff. You just got to go out and play and do the best you can."

Malone approached that, collecting team highs of 17 points and 10 rebounds. But it was the Kings who played the best they can as they ran the Jazz out of their own building.

Utah coach Jerry Sloan thought conditioning had more to do with the outcome than revenge.

"I probably shouldn't say it, but I have to be honest," Sloan said. "Our fans don't want to hear that the players are tired or out of shape. But that's what it looked like to me."

Peja Stojakovic scored 25 points and Chris Webber added 19 for the Kings, who shot 48 percent (39-of-81), including 10-of-17 from 3-point range.

"Every player on their team is a very good passer," Sloan said. "They know how to use screens, they know how to shoot the basketball, they know how to play together. They make the game look pretty easy."

Sacramento led by as many as 31 points as it won for the fourth straight time in the series. Overall, the Kings have won 14 of their last 15 games, improving the NBA's best record to 33-10.

"We wanted a solid road game," Kings coach Rick Adelman said. "This puts us at 9-9 on the road. That's a lot better than being 4-14. The fact that we're 24-1 and it's been so easy at home has spoiled our players perhaps and our fans. This shows we have to play good defense on the road to win."

The Kings did not do that in the first quarter as the Jazz took a 28-23 lead. However, Sloan saw the deluge coming.

"We had a difficult time trying to find them in the first half," Sloan said. "They had nine layups in the first quarter. When you're playing against a team like this, that shows the verasatility of their team."

"I knew they would come out with energy against us, but I thought we controlled the game after the first quarter," Adelman said. "We defended better."

The Kings had a 13-0 burst early in the second quarter, taking the lead for good. Stojakovic had 13 points and Bobby Jackson 10 in the first half, which ended with Sacramento holding a 57-47 lead.

"We got better ball movement and when we move the ball and get it to the open men, we're a pretty good team," Adelman said.

A layup by rookie Andrei Kirilenko pulled Utah within 69-60 midway through the third quarter. Webber, Stojakovic and Mike Bibby combined for 16 of Sacramento's next 19 points, giving the Kings an 88-68 lead entering the final period.

"They came in and just dominated us the whole night," Sloan said.

Bibby and Jackson scored 14 points each and Doug Christie added 13 for the Kings, who made 26-of-29 free throws. Scot Pollard collected 10 points and 15 rebounds and Hedo Turkoglu also scored 10 points.

Kirilenko scored 16 points and Bryon Russell added 11 for the Jazz, who shot 41 percent (34-of-83) and have lost five of six to drop back to .500.

"We've not had tough times like this for a long, long time," Sloan said. "Nobody's seen this kind of tough times for us, so it will be interesting to see just how we work out of it."
