Game Story

PHOENIX (Ticker) -- Stephon Marbury had 20 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds as the Phoenix Suns continued their dominance of the Golden State Warriors with a 104-98 victory.

Marbury shot just 5-of-18 from the field but made 10-of-14 free throws as the Suns defeated the Warriors for the 22nd time in the last 26 meetings. The two teams meet for the final time this season on Sunday in Golden State.

"At the beginning of the game when everything was flowing, we were hitting our shots and getting stops," Marbury said. "We were rebounding the ball and getting fast-break points."

Despite his poor shooting, Marbury finished off the Warriors. After Golden State closed to 95-91, he scored six of Phoenix's last nine points.

Shawn Marion scored 19 points and Jake Tsakalidis added a career-high 17 for the Suns, who never trailed and led by as many as 16 points.

Antawn Jamison scored 26 points and rookie Jason Richardson added 22 for the Warriors, who have dropped six of seven.

The win was just Phoenix' fourth in the last 14 games.

"It was actually really a tough game," Suns guard Penny Hardaway said. "Because with us on a minor losing streak, you get into these games where you are supposed to beat teams."

Trailing 56-44 at halftime, Golden State scored 19 of the next 32 points, cutting the deficit to 69-63 on Richardson's 3-pointer with 4:29 left.

But Marbury scored four points in an 8-2 run, giving Phoenix a 77-65 lead.

The Warriors kept battling. Jamison scored five points and Bob Sura and Chris Mills added four apiece in a 15-7 surge that made it 84-80 with just over seven minutes left.

"Those guys made a run," Marbury said. "We didn't panic, we stayed with it. We didn't get frustrated because we weren't making shots. We just kept playing."

"We get it close and we just can't get over the hump, for whatever reason," Golden State coach Brian Winters said.
