Game Story

CHICAGO (Ticker) -- Lamond Murray had a shield. The Chicago Bulls were defenseless.

Murray scored 37 points as Cleveland Cavaliers extended their season-high winning streak to four games with a 114-101 victory over the lowly Bulls.

Playing with a plastic shield over his face to help protect a broken nose that landed him on the injured list in January, Murray had plenty of good looks at the basket, falling three points shy of his season high.

"Last year I had the mask on too," Murray said. "I have a broken nose and have to protect it. I have to wear it a few more weeks. It's not bothering me at all. They cut the opening wide enough so I could see."

Murray, who scored 22 points by halftime, finished 14-of-23 from the field. He also made all six of his foul shots and grabbed 12 rebounds.

"Lamond Murray was just too big for us," Chicago coach Bill Cartwright said. "We did not have a guy to match up with him. He just either shot over the top of us or bullied us."

Andre Miller added 18 points, 15 assists and eight rebounds for the Cavs, who used a 13-5 run in the fourth quarter to take a 97-89 lead with under five minutes remaining.

Marcus Fizer scored 23 points and Brad Miller had 22 and 14 rebounds for Chicago, which suffered its third straight loss after consecutive wins.

In a tight game most of the way, the Bulls opened an 84-79 lead with 9:18 remaining on an 18-footer by Fizer, who went 10-of-17 from the field in 27 minutes.

But Wesley Person drilled a 3-pointer and Tyrone Hill, making his season debut after being activated from the injured list earlier day, scored on a tip-in to tie it.

Murray gave the Cavs the lead for good at 88-86 with 6:53 to play after making a running seven-footer. The Cavs scored nine of the next 12 points, opening a 97-89 cushion on Wesley Person's 3-pointer with 4:41 remaining.

Person scored eight of his 19 points in the fourth quarter and Hill finished with 16 and 15 rebounds for the Cavs, who shot 49 percent (41-of-83) and held a commanding 49-31 advantage on the boards.

"I felt rusty and winded out there," said Hill, who missed the first 50 games with back spasms. "As the game went on, I seemed to get back some strength and timing while out there. It was great to be out there, though."

"It was great to have Tyrone back," Murray said. "It's good to have your big bodies out there setting screens and doing the dirty work. That's what Tyrone does."

The Bulls did not have another run in them as they trailed by at least eight points the rest of the way. Fizer made a short jumper with 12 seconds left, sending the Bulls over the century mark in points and giving everyone in attendance at the United Center a free taco.

Chicago once again was shorthanded as Ron Artest, Charles Oakley and Eddie Robinson all missed the game with injuries.

Rookie Trenton Hassell picked up some of the slack, scoring 18 points as the Bulls shot 46 percent (36-of-79) and committed only four turnovers.

Murray came out firing, making 7-of-11 shots for 18 points in the first quarter as the Cavs led 30-24. He scored only four in the second period as Chicago closed within 50-49.

The Bulls came out of the locker room energized, using a 16-2 run to take its biggest lead at 65-52 on Miller's short shot in the lane with 7:31 left in the third quarter.

Miller scored seven points in a 13-4 spurt, helping the Cavs close to 69-65 with under five minutes left in the quarter. They took a 77-76 lead entering the final period on Murray's layup in the waning seconds of the quarter.
