Game Story

CHICAGO (Ticker) -- Jalen Rose only has been with the Chicago Bulls a couple of days but he has found a way to leave an imprint on his teammates.

Rose scored 13 of his 22 points in the final quarter as the Chicago Bulls snapped a six-game losing streak to the Phoenix Suns, 91-83.

Acquired in a seven-player deal with the Indiana Pacers on Tuesday, Rose followed his 36-point debut Wednesday with a clutch effort on Friday. He made just 7-of-19 shots but hit all seven of his free throws, including six in the final 27 seconds.

"I enjoy a new opportunity and a new start," Rose said. "I told myself to make the most of it and that's what we're doing. This is a great opportunity for myself and for these guys to not only get better, but to learn how to win."

"What I was most encouraged about was in situations where we needed poise on the floor, we were able to play with it," Bulls coach Bill Cartwright said. "Especially late in the game, when they closed the gap."

Marcus Fizer had 21 points off the bench and rookie Tyson Chandler added a career-high 16 points and eight rebounds for the Bulls, who have won two straight after a four-game slide.

Stephon Marbury led Phoenix with 27 points and Joe Johnson, acquired from the Boston Celtics on Wednesday, added 23.

The Suns had not lost in Chicago since a 111-104 setback on December 15, 1997.

The Bulls had a seemingly comfortable 71-63 lead with 9:43 left but Milt Palacio sank an eight-footer and Johnson made a six-footer 45 seconds apart for the Suns. Travis Best sank a 19-footer for Chicago but Shawn Marion hit two free throws around a pair of baskets by Johnson to knot the contest, 73-73.

The game was still tied, 77-77, with 3:28 left when Rose hit a free throw to give the Bulls the lead for good. He sank a 16-footer 21 seconds later and, after Marbury made two free throws, buried a 14-footer with 1:54 to go.

Tom Gugliotta answered for Phoenix with 94 seconds left but Rose fed Fizer for a layup 17 seconds later and Chandler had a free throw with 32 seconds remaining to push the Bulls' lead to 85-81. Rose began his stretch at the free throw line five seconds later, making 6-of-6 around a layup by Marbury.

"He's making it a lot better for me, a lot easier for us young players," Chandler said of Rose. "It takes the pressure off because for us rookies, all we have to do is rebound and hit the open shot."

"I think their confidence is really up now, especially as they are playing more," Johnson said. "This is Jalen's second game with them and their kids played very good. They came out with a lot of intensity and that is something we expected but did not match."

Marbury had 10 points in the opening quarter as Phoenix seized a 25-17 lead after 12 minutes. Fizer had 11 in the second as Chicago rallied, scoring 12 of the final 14 points to take a 47-40 lead into the half.

Chicago made half of its 38 shots in the opening half, including 4-of-7 from 3-point range. For the game, the Bulls were 5-of-10 from beyond the arc while the Suns were just 2-of-11.

"This is a building block," Rose added. "Obviously, today wasn't the prettiest game. There were a lot of missed shots, a lot of turnovers, but winning is winning. Any time your team is trying to learn how to win, you have to take the ugly ones."
