Game Story

CLEVELAND (Ticker) -- Ricky Davis had 27 points, nine rebounds and eight assists as the Cleveland Cavaliers defeated the Orlando Magic, 111-96, for their sixth victory in eight games.

Davis was 10-of-16 from the field in just his third start for Cleveland, which snapped a two-game home losing streak.

"It's no different than coming off the bench," Davis said. "Just get in there early and try to shut somebody down wherever I can."

"Ricky Davis had just a terrific game," Orlando coach Doc Rivers said. "He plays with great sprit, great passion and he is one of those guys that either kills you or kills them. You never know which one. Tonight he killed us."

Wesley Person added 26 points and Lamond Murray 19 and 13 rebounds for the Cavaliers, who had lost five of their last six contests against the Magic.

After Mike Miller made a 3-pointer to get Orlando within 89-84 with 8:39 left, Murray hit a 3-pointer and a layup and Davis converted a jumper from the arc to give Cleveland a 13-point advantage with 6:34 left.

Orlando, which opened a season-high seven-game road trip, got no closer than nine points thereafter.

One night after recording his first career triple-double in a win over Philadelphia, Tracy McGrady warmed up before the game but decided to sit out because his left foot was sore.

"My foot hurts," McGrady said. "I wanted to play tonight, but it kept me out. This game was important, but we're looking to the future and down the road. I'll get an MRI tommorow and the doctor said I should stay off the foot. If I hurt it more, it could cause a stress fracture."

"It came down to the doctor, who said he wouldn't suggest (McGrady) play," Rivers said. "I just thought, `I'm not going to gamble with Tracy McGrady, I'd rather just sit him.' If we have to lose this game, than let's lose this game. I'm a guy who would rather play it safe on this one."

After Darrell Armstrong hit 1-of-2 free throws to extend Orlando's lead to 69-67 with 4:57 left in the third quarter, Cleveland closed the quarter on a 17-5 run. The Cavs went on the burst without Andre Miller, who picked up his fifth foul.

Cleveland shot 50 percent (42-of-84) and manhandled Orlando on the glass, 55-28.

"This is the third night in a row that we have outrebounded teams," Lucas said. "We outrebounded the world champions (Los Angeles Lakers), outrebounded Indiana and outrebounded this team tonight. It was a very good win."

"I think it is more concentration," said Tyrone Hill, who had 11 rebounds. "Guys are focusing on rebounding. When you get teams down and you know you are a better rebounding team than you are playing, you want to take advantage of that. That's what we have been doing the past three games."

The Cavs led, 33-27, after one quarter and led 40-29 early in the second before the Magic closed the half on a 26-11 run.

"I thought it was a great effort and I thought we actually had chances to win the game," Rivers said. "We scored enough points to win. We just didn't get enough stops. Ninety-six points is a lot for a team without two of your biggest scorers. With McGrady and (Pat) Garrity off the floor, you don't have a lot of shooters left."

Garrity sat out with a right thigh contusion.

"I didn't want to miss tonight," McGrady said. "I was a little (ticked) off they kept me out tonight. When they announced me in the starting lineup, I went out like I'm playing. It's frustrating sitting on the bench and just watching, knowing I can be an impact on the game. Hopefully I don't have to sit out long."
