Game Story

SACRAMENTO, California (Ticker) -- The Utah Jazz were finishing a marathon nine-game road trip and it showed.

Peja Stojakovic scored 19 points to lead six players in double figures as the Sacramento Kings rolled to a 107-81 victory over the Jazz, who had their season-high six-game winning streak snapped.

Utah opened the longest road trip in franchise history with consecutive losses in Houston and Memphis prior to the All-Star Game. But the Jazz had been unbeaten since the break, reeling off six straight wins before entering Arco Arena, where only only two visitors have won this season.

Sacramento never trailed after the opening 85 seconds and had a 9-7 lead with 8:07 left in the first quarter before scoring 13 straight points. Mike Bibby scored six of his 13 points during the run, which gave the Kings a double-digit lead for good.

"(The Kings) are hard to play when they get off to an early start," Utah coach Jerry Sloan said. "They're probably better than us at every position."

The Jazz pulled within 42-32 on consecutive baskets by rookie Jarron Collins with 4:54 left in the first half, but Sacramento closed scored 15 of the final 22 points in the second quarter led by Stojakovic and Vlade Divac, who scored four points apiece.

The Kings had a 57-39 halftime cushion and the Jazz never got closer than 13 points in the final 24 minutes. Bobby Jackson scored nine points as Sacramento closed the third quarter with a 16-4 burst to take an 88-61 lead into the final period.

"We always have confidence at home," said Jackson, who scored 17 points off the bench. "It was just playing our game at home, playing defense and controlling the tempo."

Sacramento has won 29 of 31 games at Arco Arena this season.

Chris Webber had 16 points, seven rebounds, five assists and a season-high four steals and Divac collected 11 and 12 rebounds for the Kings, who avoided their first three-game losing streak of the season.

"This is a good win for us," Kings coach Rick Adelman said. "I was pleased with the intensity we showed, we really didn't let up. As the game progressed, we stayed with it. We can't wait for the next time we lose a game to respond."

Sacramento outscored Utah, 27-7, on the fast break and forced a season-high 29 turnovers, leading to 30 points.

"We couldn't do anything that would've made a difference tonight," Sloan said. "We can't defend them, we can't run the floor. It gives them the momentum they want. We didn't run any offense tonight. You name it, we were inept to all those things."

"Turnovers had a lot to do with it," said Jazz guard John Starks, who scored nine points off the bench. "When you turn over the ball against a good team, a good transition team, they're going to take advantage and they took full advantage."

Karl Malone, Rusty LaRue and rookie Jarron Collin scored 11 points apiece to lead the Jazz, who have lost five straight meetings with Sacramento.
