Game Story

PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- While Tracy McGrady attracted the attention, Pat Garrity delivered the clutch baskets in the final minute for the Orlando Magic.

Garrity hit a 3-pointer with 59 seconds left and snapped a tie with a jumper in the lane with 17 seconds remaining as the Magic continued their mastery of the Philadelphia 76ers with a 105-103 victory.

The Magic have won the last six meetings from the 76ers, including three this season, to clinch the tiebreaker advantage in the Eastern Conference playoff race.

"I kind of get the feeling that we got their number," said McGrady, who had 29 points and a career-high 13 assists. "I don't really want to say that, but we've been dominating them. We knew all along we were going to win this ballgame."

Orlando (36-30) extended its winning streak to five games and remained fifth overall, one game behind idle Milwaukee and 1 1/2 ahead of Philadelphia (34-31).

The Sixers held a 101-97 lead after a baseline jumper by Eric Snow with 2:28 left but missed their last five field goal attempts.

McGrady drilled a 3-pointer from the top of the key with 1:42 remaining to pull the Magic within one. After a miss by Snow, McGrady drew two defenders at the right of the key and flipped a pass to a wide-open Garrity, who connected on a 3-pointer from the left side to give the Magic a 103-101 lead with 59 seconds left.

Snow missed again from the corner on Philadelphia's ensuing possession, but Corie Blount was fouled after he grabbed the rebound. A 63 percent free throw shooter, Blount converted both to tie the game with 36 seconds remaining.

Philadelphia again keyed on McGrady, but Garrity took advantage of his open space and hit a runner in the lane with 17 seconds remaining.

"They had a foul to give and we thought they were going to use it," Garrity said. "When they didn't, T-Mac (McGrady) just went one-on-one. My guy went and closed on McGrady and I came around. He flipped the ball to me, I saw an open lane, I took two dribbles and put a little floater in there."

"Tracy creates and kicks and Pat puts the ball on the floor which scared the hell out of me," Magic coach Doc Rivers said. "Yet, he put the ball on the floor and he made a floater."

Philadelphia coach Larry Brown opted not to call a timeout after Garrity's go-ahead basket, but the 76ers had two chances to tie. Allen Iverson, who had 39 points, missed a baseline jumper with nine seconds left and Snow misfired on a jumper from the left side in the final seconds.

"I don't question anything coach does," Iverson said. "He didn't call a timeout, but we still got two shots. I thought my shot was good, but it wasn't. But it shouldn't have come to that situation where we had to make a last shot. It shouldn't have come down to that. But they just seem to have our number right now."

Garrity finished with 18 points for the Magic, who shot 53 percent and converted nine 3-pointers.

Troy Hudson again provided Orlando with a huge lift off the bench, scoring 19 points on 8-of-9 shooting. He had a career-high 34 points against Phoenix and 24 against Denver in Orlando's previous two games.

"He was awesome for us in the second quarter and early in the fourth," Garrity said of Hudson. "We were just playing high pick-and-roll and they kept going under the screens a bit. He was just stopping and shooting the ball from behind the screens and just knocking them down."

Iverson was 14-of-33 from the field, including three 3-pointers, and 8-of-10 from the free throw line, but scored his last basket with 5:32 left.

Snow finished with 20 points and Blount had 10 points and 14 rebounds off the bench.

The Sixers played without starting forward Matt Harpring, who had a stomach virus, and power forward Derrick Coleman played just 25 minutes due to a calf injury, forcing coach Larry Brown to give more minutes to Blount.

"The guy (Coleman) is hurt, you can see him running," Brown said. "He's dragging his leg, and I didn't think it was fair (to continue to play Coleman). Corie Blount played pretty damn good."

Iverson scored 11 points in the first quarter while McGrady was held to four on 1-of-5 shooting, but the Sixers only held a 30-29 advantage.

Hudson provided an immediate spark for Orlando, hitting a pair of 15-foot jumpers and a free throw in the first minute of the second quarter and Patrick Ewing converted a layup, giving Orlando a 36-30 advantage.

A 3-pointer by Hudson gave Orlando its biggest lead at 44-35 with 7:14 left in the half.

Hudson finished with 14 points in the quarter, but Iverson had 12 and his 3-pointer with 31 seconds left in the half pulled the Sixers within 55-54.

Consecutive baskets by McGrady, Garrity and Darrell Armstrong gave Orlando a 70-64 lead with 6:07 left in the third quarter.

Iverson's last basket of the game, a jumper from the right of the foul line over Armstrong, gave Philadelphia a 95-94 lead with 5:32 left.
