Game Story

CLEVELAND (Ticker) -- Red-hot Ricky Davis scored 28 points off the bench as the Cleveland Cavaliers ended a six-game losing streak with a 101-96 victory over the "casual"

Phoenix Suns.

"The name of this game tonight, and I hope you hear it from each guy, is that we were too casual," Suns coach Frank Johnson said. "It certainly starts with me... we just went through the motions and I'll take a certain responsibility for that."

Davis, who shot 12-of-22 from the field, grabbed nine rebounds and handed out three assists. Davis is averaging 26.1 points per game in his last five contests.

"I've been sitting around for three years learning the game and I'm now getting playing time," said Davis.

Johnson likely would agree.

"You take your pick," Johnson said. "All of them guarded him, and it became team defense."

Shawn Marion netted 28 points and Joe Johnson 14 for Phoenix, which had won five of its last six games and its last six meetings with the Cavaliers.

"I guess we were too casual," admitted Marion. "We wanted to get serious and physical, but it was too late. I guess we were a little relaxed and back on our heels tonight."

Andre Miller recorded 16 points, 12 assists and six rebounds and Lamond Murray chipped in with 14 points for Cleveland, which used an 11-0 run to erase a 43-38 second-quarter deficit and go ahead for good.

The Cavs took an 87-77 lead on Andre Miller's three-point play with 6:22 to go, but the Suns fought back and closed within 89-87 on Marion's 14-footer with 2:56 remaining.

After Cleveland gave itself some breathing room with a free throw and jumper by Zydrunas Ilgauskas around Davis' layup, Marion brought Phoenix back again, cutting it to 98-96 on a 3-pointer with 14 seconds left.

But Davis sank a free throw and, after Stephon Marbury missed from behind the arc, Tyrone Hill sank a pair from the line to ice the win.

Ilgauskas netted 13 points and Hill had 11 and a game-high 15 rebounds as the Cavs shot 46 percent (38-of-82) from the field and held a 45-36 rebounding advantage.

Marion, who shot 12-of-18 from the field, also pulled down eight boards. Marbury netted 14 points and Penny Hardaway 10 as Phoenix shot 48 percent (40-of-83) from the floor.
