Game Story

CLEVELAND (Ticker) -- It seems like the Milwaukee Bucks do not want to make the playoffs.

Wesley Person scored 23 points and Lamond Murray added 20 as the Cleveland Cavaliers rolled to a 106-81 victory over the struggling Bucks, who have dropped four straight games to fall into eighth place in the Eastern Conference.

Milwaukee was in first place in the Central Division just over a month ago but has lost 14 of its last 18 games and is in danger of falling out of the playoff race.

"If we continue to do what we're doing, I don't think anybody wants to look at that," Milwaukee guard Ray Allen said. "We've just got to play games and win. It's not really down to X's and O's anymore. It's about guys coming out and playing basketball."

The Bucks (39-39) entered Gund Arena in a tie with Toronto for seventh place in the Eastern Conference and quickly succumbed to the streaking Cavaliers.

"At times I thought the Cavs were playing for the playoffs and not the Milwaukee Bucks," Milwaukee coach George Karl said.

Milwaukee had its only lead, 4-3, 80 seconds into the game before Cleveland went on an 18-6 run. Zydrunas Ilgauskas scored seven of his 13 points during the spurt, which opened a 21-10 cushion with 6:18 remaining.

Cleveland had a 55-47 edge with 3:29 to go in the second quarter and scored 14 of the final 18 points in the first half to take a 69-51 halftime advantage.

Ricky Davis scored eight of his 16 points in the second period, when the Cavaliers made 14-of-22 shots.

"The first half was one of those games, I thought we could hang around and figure out some way to go," Karl said. "But the beginning of the second half, we didn't have offense or defense. When our offense shut down, our defense shut down."

Milwaukee never got closer than 17 points in the second half. Cleveland had its largest lead, 93-64, after a 3-pointer by Person with 11:02 remaining.

The Cavs shot 53 percent (42-of-80) and held an overwhelming 49-28 rebounding advantage. Tyrone Hill led the way with nine rebounds and four of his teammates had six apiece.

Andre Miller dished out 16 assists for Cleveland, which has won three straight games and four of its last five.

The Cavs can have a dramatic effect on the playoff picture in the Eastern Conference. They already have beaten Indiana and Milwaukee and close the season with meetings with Toronto and Charlotte as well as a rematch with the Pacers.

"All of these teams are playoff teams," Cleveland coach John Lucas said. "I am trying to stress to our team that we are getting ready for next year. We beat two playoff teams and if we keep going like this, I like how we are developing."

Glenn Robinson scored 21 points and Allen added 16 off the bench for Milwaukee, which has lost 10 consecutive road games since winning here March 3.

"It's not just the road, we've lost game at home," Allen said. It's this team, period. We're not playing good basketball."

Sam Cassell and Greg Anthony scored 10 points for the Bucks, who shot just 37 percent (30-of-81) and committed 17 turnovers leading to 19 points for the Cavs.

"It's hard to win a game when you don't play offense of defense and don't bring intensity to the game," Karl said.
