Game Story

MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- Tracy McGrady must be tired of losing to the Milwaukee Bucks. McGrady had 47 points, seven assists and six rebounds as the Magic snapped an eight-game road losing streak against the Bucks with a 100-90 victory. Milwaukee won 11 of the previous 12 regular-season meetings with Orlando, including eight straight at the Bradley Center, since McGrady's arrival in 2000. The Bucks won a first-round playoff series against the Magic in 2001 in McGrady's first postseason appearance with Orlando. "I think this is our first win in this building in like five years," McGrady said. "This was their home opener and we were still able to get them. Last year, we were hoping we could be a good team. This year, we know we are a good team." McGrady was unstoppable Saturday, making 16-of-29 shots from the floor - including 6-of-9 3-pointers - and 9-of-9 free throws. He notched the highest point total of the young season, eclipsing Paul Pierce's 46-point effort earlier Saturday. "Last time I faced Milwaukee I had 48, this is nothing new to me," McGrady said. "I wanted the ball to make sure we got the `W.' I just knew that everything I threw up was going to go in." "What he did tonight was phenominal," Orlando coach Doc Rivers said. "This might be the best I've seen him, not just the points but the assists and the rebounds." McGrady also set a record for the most points by an opponent in a Bucks' home opener. Michael Jordan scored 46 points against Milwaukee in 1991. "He was pretty good out there tonight, he had a super game," Milwaukee coach George Karl said. "In preparation for this game we thought maybe he was the best player in the Eastern Conference. He's maybe in the top three in the whole league." Mike Miller collected 15 points and seven rebounds and Pat Garrity added 13 and a career-high 15 for Orlando, which has won three of its first four games. "That was a tremendous win for us with four games in five nights, three of them being on the road," Rivers said. Miller had seven points in the third quarter, when the Magic outscored the Bucks, 24-12. Milwaukee made just 4-of-20 shots in the period and trailed, 76-56, entering the fourth. The Magic shot only 44 percent (36-of-82) from the floor but made 11-of-22 3-pointers and 17-of-19 free throws. Garrity drilled 3-of-6 shots from behind the arc and Darrell Armstrong made 2-of-3. Michael Redd scored 17 points and fellow reserve Toni Kukoc added 16 and 12 rebounds for the Bucks, who finished at 44 percent (34-of-78) and made just 19-of-29 free throws. "Our commitment to execute wasn't quite there tonight," Karl said. "We played tentatively and never really got it going. It all came down to a great player having a great night." The Magic were clinging to a 21-20 lead after the first quarter before McGrady exploded. The All-Star swingman scored 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting in the second quarter and made 4-of-6 3-pointers. "We started slowly and never recovered," Milwaukee forward Tim Thomas said. "They just got on us early and then (McGrady) got it going. He just wouldn't allow us to get back in the game." McGrady outscored Milwaukee's entire starting lineup by six points. Bucks point guard Sam Cassell had four points on 1-of-10 shooting and Ray Allen made 4-of-12 shots and scored 10 points. Reserve Kevin Ollie also netted 10 points as Milwaukee's bench outscored its counterpart, 49-24.
