Game StoryMIAMI (Ticker) -- The Miami Heat had no answer for the Indiana Pacers' inside duo of Brad Miller and Jermaine O'Neal. Miller scored 28 points, O'Neal added 22 and 13 rebounds and both came up big down the stretch as the Pacers held off the Heat, 83-79. Miami capped a 10-0 run with a pair of free throws by Brian Grant to tie the score at 77 with 1:50 to play, but Miller fed O'Neal for a reverse alley-oop dunk to give Indiana the lead for good with 55 seconds left. "It really helped our team emotionally," O'Neal said of the play. "I think the pass under the basket really hurt them." "It's just fun playing out there when you get another big guy going," Miller said. "I've never played with such a talented big man. If you pass him the ball, he's going to catch it and he's going to score." Miller blocked a shot by Eddie Jones and O'Neal found him in traffic for a tough layup to put the Pacers up by four with 22 seconds to go. After Miami's Mike James hit a pair of free throws with 13 seconds to play, Miller concluded the scoring with two from the line with 12 seconds remaining. "They were giving (Miller) a lot of inside looks," Pacers coach Isiah Thomas said. "He and Jermaine are really strtng to click. Last year when we got them both together (after Miller was traded from Chicago) they didn't really know each other too well. Now they're a good 1-2 punch." The Pacers shot just 42 percent (28-of-67) from the field but limited the Heat to 35 percent (30-of-87). "It was very physical on both ends of the ball," Heat coach Pat Riley said. "We just did not make enough plays. There were a ton of plays we could have made. That's why we shot 35 percent and only had 10 assists. We just didn't pass the ball enough to open people." Indiana held a big advantage from the line, making 27-of-32 attempts, including 16-of-18 by the 7-foot Miller. Miami sank 14-of-19. "I have to keep up for Reggie (injured guard Reggie Miller)," Miller said. "He's not out there getting the free throws. One of us has to do it. I was just slow and patient with the ball. You have to be smart and pump-fake to throw people off." "They were aggressive," Grant said. "I thought they went to the line an awful lot. They were just better than our big men tonight." Former Pacer Travis Best scored 16 points for Miami before spraining his right ankle after falling for a head fake by Erick Strickland with 10:26 to play and the Heat ahead, 65-63. He did not return, but X-rays were negative and he is day-to-day. "It goes to show that you can't bite on a fake," Best said. With the Heat holding a 67-65 edge, Indiana's Ron Mercer hit a jumper to start a 12-0 run that was capped by a pair of free throws by Jonathan Bender with 4:41 to play. "We missed (Best's) leadership and experience at that time," Riley said. Eddie Jones, who led Miami with 17 points, scored the game's next eight points before Grant tied it with his free throws. Grant had just five points on 1-of-9 shooting but grabbed 18 rebounds. He has 48 rebounds over his last three games. Miami led, 21-18, after one quarter, but Indiana took a 41-39 halftime lead and a 63-61 advantage into the fourth quarter. "(Miami) is a team that just beat Sacramento," Thomas said. "We didn't think it was going to be an easy game at all. They did all the right things. At the start of the game our perimeter guys had it going pretty good. "Then they made some adjustments which shut our perimeter game down and we starting going inside with Brad and Jermaine."
