Game StoryNEW YORK (Ticker) -- The New Orleans Hornets scored the final 10 points in overtime and won their fourth straight game, 97-91 over the New York Knicks. Baron Davis hit a long 3-pointer from above the key to bring the Hornets within 91-90. He was just 3-for-9 from behind the arc, but the shots he made were crucial for the Hornets. "That's why he gets the big bucks," New Orleans coach Paul Silas said. "Baron hit some big shots. I don't think anyone could have done anything against him at that point. When he's on his own like that, I just kind of let him go with the flow." After Allan Houston missed a 3-pointer at the other end, Stacey Augmon made a layup that put the Hornets ahead to stay. Davis scored five of his 24 points in overtime, while Augmon had six of his 11 in the extra session. Augmon's dunk to make the score 96-91 with 35 seconds left served as an exclamation point. Houston led the Knicks with 27 points but shot just 11-of-30 from the field. "When you lose a lot of close games, you tend to lose a little confidence late in games," Houston said. "You just want to fight that with execution." He also was forced into action at point guard after Howard Eisley fouled out in the fourth quarter. Starter Charlie Ward sat out with a bruised leg. "They went with what they had," Silas said. "If they had Charlie, it could have been different. They chose to go that way, and we exploited it." Lee Nailon, who was waived by New Orleans in the preseason, scored 18 points in 25 minutes in his first game against his old team. He hit back-to-back shots in the fourth quarter to give the Knicks an 83-79 lead. Davis' long 3-pointer with 12.3 seconds left sent the game to overtime after the Knicks had controlled most of the action. New York led by as many as 14 points, and it took an 11-2 New Orleans run to even things at 77-77. The Hornets led for the first time with 2:21 left in the fourth quarter when Davis hit a leaning jumper to make it 79-77. Led by Nailon, the Knicks scored the next six points but could not protect a four-point lead in the final minute of regulation. "The No. 1 thing is poise," Knicks coach Don Chaney said. "Along with poise, you have to take care of the ball. You have to execute. We have to be a persistent team. We can't be in a frantic mode on offense." New York went over six minutes in the fourth quarter without hitting a field goal. Center Kurt Thomas scored 14 points and grabbed 16 rebounds but missed his last nine shots. None of the Knicks' six losses have been by more than 12 points. New York expects Latrell Sprewell to return from a broken hand later this week. "They just can't find a way to win right now," Silas said. "When they get Spree back, they're going to be OK."
