Game StorySALT LAKE CITY (Ticker) -- Mark Jackson passed Oscar Robertson for third place on the NBA's all-time assists list and the Utah Jazz passed their way to a 99-76 victory over the Phoenix Suns, who had a four-game winning streak snapped. The milestone assist came when Jackson served up a lob pass for Andrei Kirilenko to dunk with 3:36 left in the first quarter. The alley-oop gave Utah a 20-16 lead. "It's a tremendous blessing," Jackson said. "I realize what Oscar Robertson has meant to the game and the player he was and it is truly an honor. If you would have told me when I was a nappy-headed kid that I would one day be third all-time and on my way to hopefully being second, I wouldn't believe." Jackson, who came in tied with Robertson at 9,887 career assists, had four of Utah's 26 assists. The Jazz have dished out 280 assists in 12 games this season and entered the game second in the league to the Sacramento Kings. "That was probably our best game that we have played from wire to wire this year," Jazz coach Jerry Sloan said. "We passed the ball and it seemed that we knew what we were doing most of the time." Led by six assists from all-time leader John Stockton, Utah's unselfish play resulted in big scoring numbers for the frontcourt. Karl Malone led the Jazz with 23 points and Kirilenko added a season-high 20 off the bench. Kirilenko started Utah's first nine games before sitting out the last two with a lower back strain. "Andrei came off the bench and did an excellent job," Sloan said. "We started a little different lineup than what we had, to try and get off to a little bit better start defensively." Greg Ostertag replaced Jarron Collins in the starting lineup. He collected nine points and six rebounds, while Collins had nine points off the bench. Utah outscored Phoenix in the paint, 60-34. Utah's big men also dominated the boards, outrebounding Phoenix, 51-30. Matt Harpring, who stayed in the starting lineup despite Kirilenko's return, had nine rebounds and Malone pulled down eight. Stephon Marbury scored 18 points for the Suns, who shot 37 percent (29-of-78) from the field. "It was like there was a lid on the basket tonight," said Shawn Marion, who had 13 points. "We missed a lot of layups. That took away from everything. When you miss an easy layup you get real frustrated. That's more frustrating than missing a jumper. It's a turnover, basically by itself almost. It happens." The Suns never led, were outscored in every quarter and trailed by as many as 27 points. Utah held a ceremony at halftime to honor former guard Jeff Hornacek, retiring his No. 14.
