Game Story

SACRAMENTO, California (Ticker) -- Bobby Jackson scored 24 points and Chris Webber added 21 and 13 rebounds as the Sacramento Kings recorded their seventh win in eight games with a 118-101 victory over the Phoenix Suns. Doug Christie and Vlade Divac contributed 18 points apiece as the Kings improved to 7-0 at Arco Arena this season after going a league-best 36-5 at home last campaign. After Sacramento grabbed a 52-49 halftime lead, Peja Stojakovic scored 10 points as the Kings opened the third quarter with a 19-2 run. That gave the Kings a 71-51 lead with 6:25 remaining and they held on for their fourth straight win against Phoenix. "It was an exciting quarter," Divac said. "We shot the ball well, made good decisions and we were active on defense. It was the best quarter we've played all year long." Stephon Marbury scored 31 of his season-high 39 points in the second half for the Suns, who have dropped five straight visits to Arco Arena. Stojakovic, one of six Kings to score in double figures, hit two jumpers in the third before converting a pair of free throws with 9:21 to go and increasing the lead to 61-51. "We really picked up the intensity defensively," Jackson said. "We got a couple of quick turnovers and started hitting some shots. Peja really got going and everything was working on offense as well." Stojakovic nailed a jumper before Jackson capped the run, converting a three-point play to open a 20-point cushion. "Bobby has been playing at such a high level," Kings coach Rick Adelman said. "It's just amazing to watch him play. I know he was going to do the job for us while Mike (Bibby) is out. He's playing as well as any guard in this league." Christie converted a three-point play in the waning seconds of the period, giving the Kings a 92-73 lead entering the fourth quarter. Marbury led the Suns' fight back. The point guard scored all the points in an 11-2 run which pulled the Suns within 105-92 with 6:13 left. "We played hard tonight," Marbury said. "They shoot the ball extremely well. You can't let a team like that get rolling. We had them down in the beginning. Then you get the two fouls and you're not as aggressive as you once were." Webber recorded his fourth double-double of the season. The All-Star power forward has scored at least 20 points in five of his last six games. The Kings' defense also contributed to the victory. Sacramento converted 22 turnovers in 30 points and limited Phoenix to a season-low eight fast-break points. "We had over 20 turnovers tonight and that's what it boils down to," Suns forward Shawn Marion said. "It creates easy offense for them. If we cut down on turnovers, we were right there."
