Game StoryMEMPHIS, Tennessee (Ticker) -- Kobe Bryant scored six of his 45 points in overtime to lead the struggling Los Angeles Lakers to their first win away from the Staples Center, a 112-106 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies. Bryant scored all six points as part of a 12-4 run at the start of the extra session, capping the spurt with a 360-degree dunk. Bryant shot 18-of-35 from the field and 7-of-9 from the foul line, including 4-of-4 in overtime. "We're in the process of getting better as a ballclub," Bryant said. "We needed to have a game like this that goes into overtime and stretches things out a bit. We're just glad we pulled it off. I think we relied on our experience and we just cut them up." By experience, Bryant meant himself, Shaquille O'Neal, Derek Fisher and Rick Fox, who combined for all but nine of the Lakers' points. O'Neal, who had his best game since coming back from toe surgery a week ago. He collected 33 points and 13 rebounds before fouling out late in overtime. "He's tired," Lakers coach Phil Jackson said of O'Neal's season-high 43 minutes on the court. "This is a game that would have been a breeze for him two or three years ago, but he's tired. He's making advances and game-by-game, you can see it happening." The Lakers got just their second road win of the year but their first outside of their home building. Los Angeles' only other road win this season came against the Los Angeles Clippers, who share the Staples Center with the three-time defending NBA champions. Los Angeles lost its first two road games after O'Neal's return, on Tuesday and Wednesday in Miami and Orlando, respectively. "I've played five games," O'Neal said. "We won three but we should have won all five. Right now we're down but we've been in worse situations. We're a team that works better when we have our backs against the wall." The Grizzlies thrilled a rare sellout crowd of 19,351 by sticking with the Lakers. Memphis led 76-75 after three quarters and took a 98-97 lead with 14 seconds left in regulation on Jason Williams' 3-pointer from the top of the key. But the Grizzlies could not get their offense going in overtime and had no answers for Bryant and O'Neal. "They were a lot more experienced down the stretch," said rookie forward Drew Gooden, who had 19 points and 10 rebounds. "Shaquille really came through in the clutch." Gooden had a chance to win the game in the final seconds of regulation, but compensated too much for O'Neal, who was defending his shot. As a result, Gooden's jumper sailed well over the rim. "The last shot you never want to miss short," Gooden said. Pau Gasol scored 24 points and Williams scored 16 points for Memphis, which also got 11 from Wesley Person.
