Game Story

ORLANDO, Florida (Ticker) -- The Orlando Magic's top three players were on top of their game and presented way too many problems for the Atlanta Hawks. Tracy McGrady scored 28 points, Mike Miller added 22 and Grant Hill's left ankle was fine as the Magic cruised to a 117-92 victory over the Hawks. Orlando coach Doc Rivers has waited two seasons to use all three weapons together. But Hill's nagging ankle problems have prevented him from using the trio. But with McGrady, Miller and Hill starting together for the second time, the Magic went on a 25-7 run over the final 7:23 of the first half to build a 69-50 cushion. "I'm playing pretty confident right now," said Miller, who is averaging 25 points over his last three games. "Everything's just going good right now. The way we are playing right now has been so fun." "Offensively, we moved the ball as well as I've seen us move it," Rivers added. "Tracy, Grant, Mike Miller and (Pat Garrity), they just swung the ball as well I've seen us move it. We call it catch. You got to play catch. If you're not open, play catch with the guy's who's open. I thought our guys did a great job of that tonight." The Magic's approach of finding open players resulted in 24 assists, 21 fast-break points and 52 percent shooting (46-of-89). Hill credited his team's defense, which forced 16 turnovers and held the Hawks to 40 percent (38-of-95) shooting. "We didn't really run a lot of stuff," Hill said. "We just kind of scored off our defense. I thought that the third quarter and the end of the second quarter might have been one of our best stretches of basketball this season. Defensively, we shut them down; offensively, we really moved the ball." Dion Glover's layup got the Hawks within 44-43 at 7:42, but McGrady went to work on Orlando's next trip, scoring the Magic's next six points. Orlando built the lead to double digits for the first time as McGrady converted a three-point play with 3:25 remaining to make it 58-47. Miller followed with an easy dunk and a short jumper, increasing the advantage to 64-49 with 1:56 left. "They are interchangeable and can all score the basketball," Hawks forward Glenn Robinson said. "Miller can shoot it. McGrady, he gets a lot of shots, and Grant Hill is slashing and going to the hole to find the open man. That is a good combination." Orlando did not let up in the third quarter, making its first eight baskets during a 17-5 run that stretched the lead to 86-55 with 7:13 left. McGrady scored the final seven points on a fadeaway jumper, reverse layup, a free throw and another jumper. He shot 12-of-19 from the field while Miller was 9-of-18 and Hill collected 10 points and nine rebounds. Much of the trio's damage was done in the third quarter, when Orlando outscored Atlanta, 30-16, to build a 33-point cushion. Glover paced the Hawks with 18 points, most of which came after the outcome was decided. Robinson was held to 13 on 6-of-20 shooting while point guard Jason Terry made 2-of-10 shots and had eight points. Orlando has won seven straight home games against the Hawks, who suffered their most lopsided defeat of the season. "The Magic were a lot sharper, a lot quicker and a lot more explosive," Atlanta coach Lon Kruger said. "We hung back in there in the middle of the second quarter, but there were a lot of things we needed to do to have a chance."
