Game StorySAN ANTONIO (Ticker) -- Karl Malone scored his 35,000th point but struggled through one of the worst shooting games of his career as the Utah Jazz had their six-game winning streak snapped by the San Antonio Spurs, 107-85. "If you've been the focus of your team's offense for a lot of years, you play a lot of games, play through injuries," Malone said. "Personally, I think a lot of my teammates make a bigger deal of it than me." Malone remains second on the NBA's all-time scoring list, trailing only Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. But he scored just seven points and made 1-of-16 shots from the field as Utah's losing streak against San Antonio reached 10 games. "You have to take a win any day over a milestone," Malone said. "As a professional athlete, I take full responsibility. I didn't shoot well." The Jazz fell to 4-7 on the road. Usually one of the NBA's best ballhandling and passing teams, Utah had 17 assists and 15 turnovers compared to 16 and seven for San Antonio. "You have to be tough mentally," Jazz coach Jerry Sloan said. "You can get by against teams that turn the ball over and take bad shots like we do, but you can't do that and beat a team like San Antonio. We couldn't turn to get to the basket on a layup. We threw it over the top. We were intimidated." Sloan criticized the Jazz on Friday for what he perceived as sloppy play and a lack of effort during a 95-77 victory over Minnesota. He did not see much change in the loss. "We didn't have our heads in this game," Sloan said. "We didn't play with grit or desire. We were out there like we didn't care. We were just hanging around. ... We had to wake up. I don't know if we did or not. I don't believe in wakeup calls, but I guess those guys do." The Spurs led by as many as 24 after combining for 62 points in the middle two periods. Stephen Jackson led seven San Antonio players in double figures with 17 points. Malik Rose scored nine of his 13 points during a 26-11 run bridging the final two quarters, helping the Spurs seal the win. John Stockton led the Jazz with 13 points and five assists. Matt Harpring, who scored a career-high 33 points in Friday's win, was held to 10. Steve Smith scored 15 points and Tim Duncan had 14 for San Antonio, which has won six of its last nine games. David Robinson chipped in 10 rebounds and four points. "All the big guys obviously were something on defense, especially David," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. "He was special." Utah lost for the first time since going to a starting lineup of Stockton, Malone, Harpring, Greg Ostertag and Calbert Cheaney.
