Game StoryCHICAGO (Ticker) -- Jalen Rose and the Chicago Bulls temporarily interrupted their long run of futility, and the Cleveland Cavaliers seem condemned to despair on the road. Rose scored 27 points and Donyell Marshall added 22 as the Bulls won the battle of the two worst teams in the Eastern Conference with a 112-104 victory. Rose and Marshall tallied 15 and 11 points, respectively, in the opening 24 minutes, when the Bulls grabbed a 59-49 lead en route to snapping their season-high nine-game losing skid. "We came out and played with a sense of urgency," Rose said. "We needed this game really bad. I can't imagine waking up tomorrow with another loss to Cleveland - no offense to them. "But at the same time, they're a team struggling, and two losses to them in the same week would have been devastating for our team's character." Cleveland posted a 111-101 victory over Chicago on Wednesday in the opener of their home-and-home series. Meanwhile, the Cavaliers have lost 11 straight away from Gund Arena since capturing their road opener against the Los Angeles Clippers on October 30. Zydrunas Ilgauskas collected 28 points and nine rebounds and Ricky Davis contributed 27 points for the Cavaliers, who have dropped 16 of their last 17 games. "We beat them very badly on the boards last game," Cavaliers coach John Lucas said. "They really came out and hit them tonight. They also shot the ball much better. Everything that could go bad for us seemed to in that third quarter." Chicago's Trenton Hassell scored a season-high 15 points and rookie Jay Williams chipped in 14 as the Bulls raised their home record above .500 (4-3). The Bulls enjoyed an 11-4 burst in the third. Williams capped it with a dunk off a fast break, giving Chicago its largest lead, 87-64, with just under three minutes to go. "Our coach made a great statement before the game," Williams said. "We have to play hard every possession. ... We were trying to pressure the ball and get some steals. I'm just glad we won." The Cavs battled back, outscoring the Bulls, 32-15, over the next 10 minutes, bridging the third and fourth quarters. Davis' running dunk with just under five minutes left in the contest pulled Cleveland within 102-96. "Our defense picked up and we had them trying to hit tough shots," Cavs forward Carlos Boozer said. "We tried to put pressure on them and see if they would crack at the end. Give them credit as they hung in there." Astonishingly, the Bulls are ahead of their winning pace of a year ago, when they did not record their fifth victory until December 29. "Nobody likes to lose," Bulls coach Bill Cartwright said. "Our margin of error right now, considering our youth, is not a great one. We have to be smarter. We have to take better care of the ball. We have to defend better. We have to be tougher. We needed all that." The Bulls entered the contest with a three-game losing streak against the Cavs, but their starting five combined to hit 31-of-49 (.633) from the floor. Chicago shot better than .500 overall (.568, 42-of-74) for just the second time this season, having won both games.
