Game StorySALT LAKE CITY (Ticker) -- David Wesley and Baron Davis were having polar opposite games, but each came through in different ways for the New Orleans Hornets. Wesley drilled a franchise-record eight 3-pointers and Davis added six huge points in the final minute as the Hornets snapped a six-game road skid against the Utah Jazz with a 93-88 victory. Wesley was hitting his shots throughout and finished with a season-high 33 points. Meanwhile, Davis could not make a 3-pointer as he missed his first seven attempts and had just four points entering the fourth quarter. New Orleans took the lead for good at 85-84 when Jamaal Magloire made 1-of-2 at the line with 1:42 remaining. Utah's Matt Harpring missed a shot and the Hornets got the rebound and worked the shot clock down before Davis nailed a long 3-pointer with 58 seconds left. "I have confidence in myself in tough situations and so do my teammates," Davis said. "It was a clutch situation and I got a great pass and shot the ball like I was supposed to shoot it." Karl Malone's jumper sliced the deficit in half and Wesley misfired on a 3-pointer for just the second time. The Jazz again went to Malone, who missed a long jumper. Malone tried to save the rebound from going out of bounds and tossed it to midcourt where Davis scooped it up and went in for a layup as he was fouled by Calbert Cheaney. Davis' free throw made it 91-86 with six seconds left. Davis still is playing with the sore back that has plagued him for most of the season. "Davis is really hurting right now, but he is giving me all he has and I appreciate that," Hornets coach Paul Silas said. "We are a better ball club with an 80 percent Baron Davis than without him." Harpring scored 21 points to lead Utah, which had a seven-game home winning streak snapped. Malone collected 18 points and 13 rebounds for the Jazz, who held a whopping 52-20 advantage in points in the paint. "We weren't shooting the ball well and you know they are going to come back at you sometime because they are too good of a team," Utah coach Jerry Sloan said. "We weren't able to score in a couple of situations and had turnovers that didn't give us the opportunities." Wesley had the hot hand as he made 8-of-10 beyond the arc, although he misfired on 5-of-7 inside the arc. He had three 3-pointers in the second quarter as New Orleans sliced a 24-12 deficit after one quarter to just 38-35 at halftime. After a layup by Malone opened the second half, Wesley had a 3-pointer and a three-point play to give New Orleans the lead. Wesley finished with 16 points in the third quarter as the Hornets took a 71-67 lead into the fourth. "The way they are playing defense, they crowd the strong side and a lot of my 3-pointers came when they went to the zone," Wesley said. "We settled down after the first quarter and started making shots." Malone's jumper gave Utah an 80-78 edge with just under four minutes remaining and he hit two at the line for an 82-79 lead with 3:33 to go. Davis fed Wesley for his eighth and final 3-pointer for an 82-82 tie 30 seconds later. Utah committed 18 turnovers, including four by Greg Ostertag. "I think we had a lot of turnovers they capitalized on," Harpring said. "I think we were throwing the ball around too much and they got back in the game." Jamal Mashburn scored 19 points and Magloire and Elden Campbell each chipped in 13. Davis shot just 3-of-13 for 10 points but handed out seven assists. Cheaney made 8-of-12 shots for 16 points and Andrei Kirilenko, who scored a career-high 30 points in Sunday's loss at the Los Angeles Lakers, added 14 off the bench. The Jazz fell to 8-2 at home. The Hornets' last win in Utah was a 106-97 triumph on December 6, 1994.
