Game StorySAN ANTONIO (Ticker) -- Halftime did nothing to cool off the San Antonio Spurs or heat up the Los Angeles Clippers. Tim Duncan had 25 points and 18 rebounds and Tony Parker added 22 and nine assists as the Spurs hung a huge run across the second and third quarters for a customary 97-84 victory over the Clippers. For a stretch of roughly eight minutes beginning late in the second quarter and moving into the third period, the Spurs went on a 24-2 run, turning a one-point deficit into a 68-47 lead. Not even a 14-minute break for halftime could slow the Spurs, who scored 12 of the last 14 points of the first half and the first 12 of the second half. Nor could it spark the Clippers, who went more than eight minutes without a basket. "There was a point in the first half where we let up defensively, and the third quarter we turned it over a bit, but all in all we played a good, solid defensive game," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. "A lot of people contributed and overall we did a pretty good job." "We basically didn't hit shots out of the double-team," Clippers coach Alvin Gentry said. "We did a great job in the beginning keeping up with them, but once (they) started double-teaming us, we just couldn't make passes out of the post, and we didn't have good spacing." The Spurs beat the Clippers for the 18th time in the last 19 meetings. They also won consecutive games for the first time since a four-game winning streak from November 16-22. Parker also did a solid job in limiting Los Angeles point guard Andre Miller, who scored just seven points on 3-of-13 shooting. "We kinda challenged Tony Parker a little bit about his defense, and he's taken it on against both Steve Nash (against Dallas on Wednesday) and, tonight, Andre Miller," Popovich said. Michael Olowokandi came off the injured list to collect 20 points and 11 rebounds for the Clippers. He made 9-of-18 shots but committed six turnovers. "I wasn't winded, which was a good sign," Olowokandi said. "I was satisfied with the way I played for the first game back." "It is tough for any player that has a long layoff to get back into the rhythm of playing the game," Gentry said. "He did a great job tonight in getting back into the rhythm of the game and things will continue to improve for him." A basket by Olowokandi gave the Clippers a 45-44 lead with 3:44 left in the second quarter. But all they managed for the rest of the half was two free throws by rookie Marko Jaric. Meanwhile, Malik Rose scored six points to help the Spurs to a 56-47 halftime lead. David Robinson had four points in the spurt at the outset of the third period as San Antonio pushed the lead to 21 points. When Miller made a basket at the 7:19 mark, he ended a drought from the field of 8:25 for Los Angeles. "We did a great job in staying in the game in the first half, but (they) really hit some big shots in the third quarter to bury us," Olowokandi said. Steve Smith and Stephen Jackson scored 10 points each for the Spurs, who shot 51 percent (39-of-76). Duncan added six assists and four blocks in a terrific all-around game. Quentin Richardson scored 19 points off the bench and Elton Brand added 16 and 14 rebounds for the Clippers, who shot less than 38 percent (32-of-85). Brand's streak of 20-point games ended at seven.
