Game Story

BOSTON (Ticker) -- Antoine Walker and Tony Battie were able to overcome one of the best performances in their own building. Walker recorded his second triple-double of the season and Battie scored a career-high 24 points as the Boston Celtics survived an explosion by Ricky Davis to hand the Cleveland Cavaliers their 12th straight road loss, 115-100. Davis scored 42 points, three shy of his career high established Monday and the second-most by an opponent at the FleetCenter, which opened in 1995. Philadelphia's Allen Iverson holds the record with 47 on January 25, 2002. Davis was 17-of-26 from the floor with five 3-pointers. He also became the second player in franchise history to score 40-plus points twice in a season. "It makes you feel good," said Davis, who lit up Milwaukee in a double-overtime loss four days ago. "But hopefully we can pull out a win next time I hit 40 again." Walker finished with 33 points, 11 rebounds and 10 of Boston's season-high 31 assists for his 13th career triple-double. He made 12-of-21 shots. "I just try to be as versatile as possible," said Walker. "This game was much harder than expected. We were hoping to get a blowout and we knew we had to be aggressive." Battie, who returned from a one-game suspension, scored six points in the final quarter as Boston improved to 8-0 when it scores 100-plus points. "That might be the fastest team in the league," Battie said. "I felt a little bad because I missed a battle with Phoenix on Wednesday). I just wanted to come out and bring some energy." Boston set an early tone by shooting an astounding 74 percent in the first quarter. Walker was 4-of-4, including three 3-pointers. Paul Pierce, who returned after having surgery Friday on his two front fractured teeth, made 7-of-9 shots and scored 15 of his 21 points in the period. The Celtics led 40-23 after 12 minutes, their second-best opening quarter of the season. "If I get hit in the face again - oh well," said Pierce, on continuing to be aggressive in the paint. "I'm just going to keep playing the way I know how to play." The Cavs cut the deficit to 10 points at halftime and started the third quarter with an 18-9 run that featured three 3-pointers by Davis and pulled Cleveland within 72-71 with 6:43 to go. But that was as close as it would get. "I'm real disappointed, because with all the points, there's no win," Davis said. Cleveland has lost nine straight visits to Boston dating to November 7, 1997. "It's disappointing to have all these points and no wins," said Davis. "We're still working hard over here and still growing. But we've still got more stuff to learn." Zydrunas Ilgauskas had 18 points and 11 boards and former Celtic Milt Palacio chipped in a season-high 13 and career-high 10 for the Cavs.
