Game StoryCLEVELAND (Ticker) -- Rashard Lewis and Gary Payton had fun shredding the defense of the Cleveland Cavaliers. Lewis scored 29 points and Payton added 23 as the Seattle SuperSonics completed a successful five-game road trip with a 111-98 victory over the Cavaliers. Seattle, which is 8-0 all-time at Gund Arena, finished its trek with a 3-2 mark for its second strong five-game trip this year. The SuperSonics went 3-2 on a road swing from November 5-12. "This was the last game of a long road trip," Seattle coach Nate McMillan said. "You are always concerned. We've been out for five games. Guys want to get home." It was Cleveland's 15th straight loss to Seattle. Lewis and Payton combined for 31 points in the first half as Seattle built a 63-47 lead. Payton's basket made it 36-26 at the end of the first quarter and Kenny Anderson's hoop with 8:22 left in the second period capped a 9-4 spurt that gave the Sonics a 45-30 advantage. "Coach did a good job of taking advantage of the size matchups," Lewis said. "The majority of guys were ready to play. We knew it was going to be an up-and-down game." A basket by Ricky Davis cut the deficit to 93-85 with 6:19 remaining. Seattle answered with six of the next nine points to keep Cleveland at bay. Predrag Drobnjak scored a career-high 23 points and Payton also handed out nine assists to move into ninth place on the NBA's all-time list with 7,164, 48 shy of former Sonic and current Toronto Raptors coach Lenny Wilkens. "We played, executed and did what we needed to do and got a win," Payton said. "We should have been 4-1 (on the trip), but three out of five isn't bad." The first quarter featured a Gund Arena record of 10 rebounds by Seattle rookie Reggie Evans, who finished with a season-high 17 boards. Desmond Mason came off the bench for 12 rebounds and Lewis added 10 as the Sonics held a 55-42 cushion on the glass. "They have a small backcourt," Lewis said. "Coach just pretty much read the defense and went with the lineup." Seattle shot 58 percent (14-of-24) in the first quarter and 54.5 percent (24-of-44) for the half. Lewis was 5-of-7 in the first half and Drobnjak was 5-of-8 for 11 points. While the Sonics were clicking, the Cavaliers were not. Davis and rookie Dajuan Wagner each made just 2-of-10 shots in the first half as Cleveland shot 37 percent (18-of-49). "I like the way we competed tonight," Cavs coach John Lucas said. "I thought we competed at a high level, but we looked mentally tired and we looked tired on the floor." Back-to-back baskets by Mason gave Seattle its largest lead at 84-63 with just under three minutes left in the third quarter. Davis led Cleveland with 20 points and Zydrunas Ilgauskas added 17. Jumaine Jones came off the bench and made five 3-pointers for 19 points. Seattle's Vladimir Radmanovic was ejected with 24 seconds left after he hit Cleveland's Carlos Boozer in what he claimed was retaliation for a blow by the rookie. "He was elbowing me," Radmanovic said. "I took 10 elbows from him and I didn't say anything. I wouldn't hit him without reason." In the final seconds, Davis swatted the ball out of bounds from Payton as the Sonics guard was attempting to dribble out the clock. The two exchanged words before Payton took the inbounds and dribbled it out.
