Game StoryLOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- The Los Angeles Clippers scored only six points in the final six minutes and blew a 10-point lead down the stretch in a 97-93 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers, who got a season-high 30 points from Bonzi Wells. The Clippers led by as many as 14 points in the final period and still held an 87-77 advantage on Keyon Dooling's 3-pointer with 6:41 left. Los Angeles did not make another basket until Dooling's meaningless layup with 6.9 seconds to go. "I'm disappointed in that we've been playing really good basketball and we haven't had one of these games where we've been up in the fourth quarter and let it slip away for a while," Clippers coach Alvin Gentry said. "Once again, it's a home loss. We don't have time to sulk about it." Wells scored five points in a decisive 15-0 run. He matched his season high established Monday against New Orleans after Trail Blazers coach Maurice Cheeks challenged him to score more points. "It's a whole team effort," Wells said. "I don't care if somebody scores 30 or 40 in one night. It still takes a team to do it." Wells' 3-pointer with 4:47 remaining tied it, 87-87, and neither team scored until Rasheed Wallace made a free throw with 2:45 left to give Portland the lead for good. "It was just a matter of time for us to close the gap," said Blazers forward Scottie Pippen, who started Portland's run with a 3-pointer from the corner. "When we got the lead, they lost some of their poise." Even after Portland took the lead, Los Angeles did not score for another 1:36, when Andre Miller made a pair of free throws to cut the deficit to 92-89. But neither team made another basket for the rest of the game, except for Dooling's late layup. The Clippers' late collapse spoiled excellent early performances by their guards. Miller scored 13 of his 25 points in the first quarter and reserve Quentin Richardson scored 18 of his 24 in the second, hitting a team record-tying five 3-pointers in the period. "We didn't score for 5 1/2 minutes," Richardson said. "(You) can't do that. I was just trying to pick my spots, do what I'd been doing all game. I knew they'd make me the focal point in the second half." Former Clippers guard Jeff McInnis had a big night for Portland, scoring 17 points in 17 minutes off the bench in his return to the Staples Center. Clippers rookie guard Marko Jaric tied a season high with eight assists.
