Game StoryORLANDO, Florida (Ticker) -- The road remains unkind to the New Jersey Nets. Tracy McGrady scored 32 points and Darrell Armstrong added 20 as the Orlando Magic snapped a three-game losing streak with a 92-83 victory over the Nets. Before the game, the Magic learned they would be without center Shawn Kemp, who was suspended indefinitely for violating the NBA's substance-abuse policy. "He has a disease ... we know that," Orlando coach Doc Rivers said. "We knew that the day we signed him. We don't know what's happened yet, we really don't. There's a chance Shawn Kemp might be on the plane next game. I'm more concerned about the human being." "We need to feel good about this win we just got tonight," McGrady added. "I mean, this was a big game. New Jersey is not a pushover team. Everybody knows that. And for us to be without Shawn Kemp and other guys can come in and contribute to the win was just big." New Jersey, which had won six of seven, shot just 33 percent (28-of-86), including 2-of-19 from the arc, and fell to 12-14 on the road. Nets All-Star Jason Kidd contributed 19 points, eight rebounds and eight assists but was ineffective shooting the ball, connecting on just 5-of-21 from the field and going 0-of-8 from 3-point range. "We shot 32 percent and you are not supposed to have a chance to win, but we did," Kidd said. "That gives us something that we can draw from. We just didn't make shots. If we make shots, then maybe it is a different outcome." The Magic trailed, 65-64, before rookie Pat Burke hit a jumper two minutes into the fourth quarter that sparked a 13-0 run. Mike Miller ended the burst with a layup with 6:26 left that made it 77-65. McGrady did not score during the run. "In the fourth quarter, their bench and their energy guys like Armstrong, Burke, (Jeryl) Sasser and those guys, they built the lead without McGrady," New Jersey coach Byron Scott said. "That unit they had in at that particular time against our bench played much harder. And that was the difference." "That was big," McGrady said of the burst. "Darrell was the guy. He was the man to step up and lead in the fourth period. The hustle, everybody else just followed his lead and I had a chance to rest and close out the game." New Jersey climbed within 83-81 on a pair of free throws by Kenyon Martin with 1:40 left, but Armstrong countered with a 3-pointer 18 seconds later and the Nets got no closer than three points thereafter. "T-Mac found Pat (Garrity) and Pat found me, and somebody had to rotate off Pat," Armstrong said of the play setting up his 3-pointer. "Either let me take it or Pat. Fortunately, they said, `We're going to let Darrell Armstrong make that shot.'" Martin, whose nose was bloodied in the third quarter by an apparently inadvertent elbow from Orlando center Andrew DeClercq, scored 17 points. Richard Jefferson had 15 and Kerry Kittles 13 for the Nets, who had won the previous four meetings with the Magic. "He did it on purpose," Martin said of DeClercq. "(My nose) is probably cracked, not broken. If it was broken, it would be on the side of my face. I know when somebody does something on purpose. Let us just leave it at that." Orlando had dropped five of six but avoided its first four-game losing streak since March 1-6. "Before the game, I don't think guys were really high about the game. And to come out and put that effort is pretty cool," Rivers said. "I'm really proud of the guys."
